I'm from the Portland area, 6 generations in Oregon. Oregon has great waterfowling and lenghty seasons. You are 2 hours from the beach, mountains or desert. BUT:

1) It rains all the time.

2) Cost of living is insane. Median housing price in the last Sunday paper I saw (about 3 months ago) was 301k. And they aren't mansions...subdivisions.

3) Portland traffic is horrible, it is a very liberal town (and I'm liberal by y'alls standards).

4) From what I have read of your posts here Dan, it would have to be more like 500,000/year for it to be worth your while.

But, if you decide to move there PM me about Oregon.

I feel like Rip'em.... 5 yrs till retirement is too close to uprooting everything and moving up there. You need to look at the whole picture.... money.... cost of living... among other things.

Something to think about.

Hate to see you go should you decide.

I wouldn't do it for $30k more....that might cover the cost of your "new" house..

Would be nice to hunt for 100 day's though...

If you take off 2 months you could always come here for those 2 months..

Dan - take a look at the revenues for the last 4 years running. Given the fact that 50% - 60% of the fiber buried in the ground is idle, telecom companies are still cutting heads and that Cisco, Nortel and TI's parking lots in Richardson and DFW are still empty..I would be leary until I did all of my home work. Router and switch installs are a product of telecom sales and they are still in the dumps. Take a look at Cisco's run rates as well.

I'm sorry.....I just can't help it. Everytime this thread gets pushed to the top of the page, I see it again........"Neither for love or money".....that really bothers me.

It's neither/nor....either/or

So grammarically, it should be "Neither for Love, NOR Money"

(O.K.......I feel better, now that I've gotten that off my chest) :?

Well, Anat., to be absolutely correct, it should be "Neither for love, nor for money." (Parallel structure)

If you move, what are we to do?

I guess my children's Birth Certificates with your wife’s name and autograph will become a collectors item. 8)

I have fished the John Day, Willamette, and Mckenzie river up there. The Salmon and Steelhead come a long way inland, and there is some great fishing for them all through Oregon. The trout fishing is awesome on the Crooked River also. There is some great scenery, and some pretty die hard waterfowlers in the area. They talk little funny, but they are there. I have an Aunt and Uncle in Eugene, which isn't far from the coast either. Good Luck on making your decision. I think it would be a really nice place to live. I have thought about it myself. A nice and lengthy season.
