Pirogue

Have any of yall ever built a Pirogue using a set of plan bought on the internet?

I really want a Pirogue but my wife doesn't see the need. Thinking about build my own. But I don't want to wast time and money on some moer **** piled up in the yard as she calls it. [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

I have yet to build this one, but my friend did. This guy has a hard time operating a screwdriver and his turned out real nice especially for the first try.
This seems like a good deal and an easy enough kit to build.

Just finished an Uncle Johns kit boat. It is great but a little harder to build than advertised. I tried it out on some pretty big water and it was stable after getting used too. I recommend it but be sure to have a belt sander handy. I built the 14 1/2 foot version for two people and it seems perfect for shallow water hunting. Easy to paddle with one man (I added a 7 foot keel) and very responsive and fast as well. I will probably build another one. Its a two man project.

an elder friend of mine built me a pirouge syle boat, i call it the catfish pirogue... tried it out this weekend and i love it... no plans that i know of, he built it by ear and sight....

I have built two of them. Both are 11.5 feet long and were constructed of marine plywood. One has cypress for the three ribs. Both have fiberglass on the bottom. I have killed ducks out of mine, but my brother has not put his in the water.

Hope this helps. I was very happy about building the pirouges and am now working on a push pole. I would do it again if the opportunity arises.

I went in to Uncle John's web page and well,doggy,I like'em.I'm thinking seriously about getting a kit myself and building me one.Think I'm gonna wait though untill after duck season,maybe make it a summer time project where I can have the time to work on it.

I have been thinking about building one myself. It will have to wait until after hunting seasons close now though. Maybe we can see how it goes?

Call me lazy, but I found a guy out of florence who sells 'em cheaper than I can build it.

14' fiberglass for $300.

I'm out of the boat buliding business.
