Over the years we (family) have compiled a nice assortment of "things". Things range from coke machines/bottles, old cabinets, generators (huge would take a tractor to pull), welders, furniture, stoves, tv's (black and white & Color), old magazines, boat motors? I mean we even have a shower stall? Although I consider it "Junk", I'm thinking it may have some value....
The shop/storage unit is maybe 30 ft wide by 50 ft long (maybe larger), slap full of 'stuff'. Does anyone know how one would attain a value to a lifetime of storage?
Weird question I know, my grandfather mentioned he'd like me to make a little money by moving it out, and I ain't got a clue how to go about it....
Anyway, what would best way to get values for antiques/junk? Any ideas?

It sounds like you have such an assortment it would be hard to get an auction company to give you an idea. Thats a lot of inventory and a lot of leg work. I guess your granddad picked the hottest time of the year to get rolling on it. Makes me break a sweat just thinking about it:Dmissed mallards wrote:Over the years we (family) have compiled a nice assortment of "things". Re: Ask DS: A value for Junk?
huge demand for old coke stuff like coke machines. If bottles are old enough there worth something too. Boat motors may have some value too.
Re: Ask DS: A value for Junk?
Start with the small stuff first, if its just an assortment of many things. If there was any kind of collecting like bottles or coke memorbilla then organize it by collections when you start trying to sell it. As far as knowing it is junk, if its old and rusty somebody will probably want it. If its useful like a toliet put it on craigslist or have a yard sale would be the thing to do with those items.

a 30'x50' space is worth more than all the junk in it.
just get what ever you can for it.
I'd be intereseted in some of the welding equipment.

Call a auctioneer in your area and tell them what you have and what you want to do. I own a antique mall so I see this happen about 5 times a month! lol Dont just start selling all the good stuff out of there. Have the auctioneer take a look at your stuff. It want cost you anything to have him look. If you do have a auction then he will take 10-20% off the top.

Re: Ask DS: A value for Junk?
I'm interested in the generator or any other power generationg equipment.
You can either sell the stuff piece by piece and take longer to sell but may make more money. Or, you can get someone to come in and do an auction and make a quick sale with maybe not so much money.
Sounds like you need to call that American Pickers crew to come over.
