need chigger remedy

Postby Singlereed » Mon Jun 27, 2011 9:35 pm

Everytime my family and I go to the farm to work or play we get chiggers. Need some help from you guys on chigger prevention if it exist and how to get rid of chiggers once you get them. Don't know if it helps but my girl is 2.5 yrs old and my son is 5.
I have always heard that a cap of Clorox in the bath water would get rid of chiggers but am not sure.

Thanks for the help in advance.

chigger-ex is the only thing I found that helped me. I believe I bought it at walgreens. I tried the clorox bath but had no luck.

Chiggerex is the BEST stuff ever invented for a bad case of chiggers, it doesn't feel the greatest at first, but man it's great.

Grandpa always put kerosene around our pants legs to keep them off. I don't recommend that now as I think it was a hold over idea from the depression. Spay your clothes down with permethrin. There are several brands on the market. I use Sawyer and it's available at Wal Mart.

Prevention is the only way....know before you go. Now there is nothing to do but itch. The bug itself is long long gone, he is not burrowed in your skin.

I spray down good with bug spray before I enter the woods both on my skin, socks and pants leg and when I get home the first thing I do is pour me a bowl of clorox and jump in the shower. I never have any problems and I'm in the woods dang near every weekend year around.

I don't get them anymore because I put 2 ounces of bleach in the bath AS SOON AS I GET HOME and I don't get "bit". Someone will say that bleach in the bath water may not be good for you, but at that rate it is like a heavily chlorinated swimming pool. I will take the bleach over the itchy nuts anyday. You can try it or you can suffer. Your choice. Like duckaholic said, once you got em, you are gonna itch. Chigger x will relieve them momentarily.

clorine and bleach are not the same, so you really cant say its like a heavily clorinated swimming pool. Next time try opening your eyes under water in the bath tub and let me know how it feels.  I am not saying using it in the bath water doesnt help, just use it in moderation 2 ounces isnt alot in a full tub. I was watching dual survivor the other day, seems you can add 4 drops of bleach to a quart of water to make it drinkable after about an hour. So if you can drink it, in small amounts diluted in water it wont kill you

My uncle once said the nice thing about having red bugs is that it feels so good to scratch em.
