On the river, we call 'em buffalo gnats....some folks are highly allergic to 'em....more of a nuisance to me, around my face, when trying to fish....a $5 headnet, long sleeves, and britches solves the problem.

My wife works for the hospital and was scared to go to work Tuesday morning because her face was so swollen from the bites. Those jokers are terrible in the Clarksdale area, but were fine @ Horseshoe Lake in Ark. I don't understand it.

They'll be here until about the middle of June, which just about the time for the first real good skeeter hatch.

Just plain ole Cover-Up is what we've found to be most effective. One of the oldest scents out there for hunters. Vanilla buck bombs work pretty good too. Just don't mash the lock all the way down and use it like a spray.

Avon skin-so-soft bug guard towelette.....the gnats will avoid you like the plague.....keep the towelette in the foil pack in a small zip lock bag and you can use it for 2-3 days......over by the levee in Washington county those gnats are serious.

THey are always pretty bad on the river and oxbows this time of year but they are terrible everywhere in the delta this year probably because of the flood.
