Can someone tell me why in the Holy Hell Butch Thompson would start a lefty against an all right handed lineup in an elimination game? I'm still not impressed with his coaching...

You are smoking grass. We might no one better talent wise, but way better matchups...

ANY starting pitcher staff at all this season, you're looking at a 40+ win season.

Not so sure I would not have just started Caleb Reed. Knew we would burn him today anyway. And I have not been impressed with BT all season.

Butch has got to go. Most of our pitchers get worse every year they are coached by him. Cohen has no problem throwing his players under the bus so lets see if he can do the same with an assistant coach. Keeping Thompson would be equal to Croom refusing to get rid of Woody McCorvey.

Cohen didn't throw his players under the bus. He threw Polk's players under the bus. Polk basically quit recruiting and only offered scholly's to kids that attended his baseball camps. That only works for so long.

GH22 you are right about Polk but he is not he coach anymore. What is your evaluation of Thompson and the job he is doing developing our pitching staff? Developing a pitching staff covers a lot of variables including off season work, throwing schedules, working with pitchers on throwing motions, in game decisions, etc, etc...... How has Butch done with the pitchers since Polk left and the new staff took over? What has happened to Routt and Stratton?

The pitching staff is much better than last year. The issues with the starting pitchers is more mental than anything else. Routt not being ready to go at the start of the season hurt. Also have to factor Ben Bracewell and CC Watson's injuries. Butch may be on a short leash. Either this year or next. However, MLB draft pending, we have some stud pitchers coming in next season that will pitch as freshmen.

Caleb Reed went to California over the summer to get help....his improvement can not be credited to Butch. What other improvement is there? Think the bats and better defense may be showing up like we are pitching it better. I am not in favor of giving Butch a pat on the back. A lot of times I have questioned what he was doing. Bats have helped Cohen's tactics as well. I think everyone should still be on "prabation" at this point, jury still out if they are going to bring MSU back to the traditions we all want. I was a big fan of the hiring of Cohen, but he has yet to prove to me he is the guy, Butch either. They have another season after MSU makes SEC tourny and NCAA on a year that was certainly weird. Not sure it is a down year, but for sure not typical.
