Source for power poles.
Looking at "building up" after this flood and possibly using telephone poles to to suspend the new building.
Where is the most reasonable place to get power poles and how much do they cost?
Can you get good used ones?

Thats a good question. I don't know yet..... They will probably need to be 24' or so in length to be any good for me.Wingman wrote:Got some from fishponds being leveled. How many you need?
If we go the light pole route... we will need a bunch of them......

Re: Source for power poles.
Saw some listed in the current issue of the MS Market Bulletin...45 feet long, $60 each...purchaser has to load them....I think they were at Belzoni so it might be the same one's Wingman is talking about.......
Re: Source for power poles.
I know when we are pulling old poles and someone stops and asks if they can have them we'll give them as many as they want. Saves us from having to unload them. If your out and about and see a line crew working stop and ask them if they know where you could get some.
Re: Source for power poles.
How much are brand new poles?
I would assume they come in many different lengths...... We would need fairly short ones I guess.... as far as new power poles were concerned.

Re: Source for power poles.
I'd second asking a line crew if you see one. Our local EPA allows people to have the old poles - you have to move them yourself. Our camp and one of our stands is on old poles now. Many of the old poles are in great condition.
Re: Source for power poles.
I'm not sure what new poles are going for. Look for class 5, 4, or 3 poles. Class 3 poles will be bigger in dia. You can usually find the length and class size on the bottom of the pole. Good rule of thumb as for how deep to set them would be 10% of length+2Ft. Good luck!Blazer406 wrote:How much are brand new poles?

Re: Source for power poles.
I had a contractor tell me I needed to price wooden piles..... not power poles. He said piles would be cheaper.... cause they don't have to meet some electrical spec or classification.... maybe a UL spec or something..... you can get them treated just like the power poles.... similar sizes..... just a little cheaper. He said that is what the houses on the coast are all built on.
Off to do some research.....

Re: Source for power poles.
Local power company here gives the used poles away. You call them and go to a yard and load them yourself.
If I remember right, poles and piles are technically the same thing. It depends how the stick is installed into the ground. If the large end is in the ground, it's a pole. If the small end is in the ground, it's a pile.
