to Property owners Inside the Levee!

Postby swamprooter » Tue May 17, 2011 1:56 pm

it is rumored that property owners inside the levee could be shut out another 2-3 weeks from inspecting their property and initiating personal plans to deal with their loss ........YET..........several Casinos will open Friday here in the North Delta. All concerned property owners need to contact their ELECTED Levee Board of Directors and voice your opinions.

hopefully we be treated with the same ear the Casinos have been!

I have heard the same thing. However, from looking at the river forecast, it is going to be at least a couple of weeks before we can drive a truck into our place. And that is if the road has not washed out, a distinct possibility. Boats are another story...no reason why we shouldn't be allowed access that way.

The Casinos to the in Tunica rent land from the YMD. The YMD owns their levees. The Mississippi Levee Board does not. I'm not sure that complaining to the MS Levee board would matter - it's not their jurisdiction up there. This does affect all property owners, however.

YMD covers Cohama and Tunica County on the MS River.
MLB covers Bolivar, Washington, Issaquena, and Warren along the MS River.

The governor issued the no boating edict - not sure which levee boards issued bans on which parts of the levee.

I hope that's useful - it's accurate as far as I know. totally not fair for Casinos to get to their property but the average person not to.

Only one Ive seen to possibly open is Hollywoods. They, per reported by news, are the only ones that did not get that much damage. I want to say they are actually in there this week trying to fix things and get stuff done. I know 1/2 the parking lot is still under water also. Then part of the road is still under water. So it will be a obstical getting in there
They are the farthest away from the river also. Across the street sames town and the other one had water in 2nd floors.
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
Cheers, Georgie.

Supposely from a close source to Sykes Sturdivant ( chairman of the YAzooMS Levee Board).. they will not let the private land owners back across the levee till after May 30th. However you can go to the casinos Friday even though as reported their parking lots are flooded.

so while our ARK neighbors allow river access, our Elected Board of Directors from our River counties have chosen to keep us out of our property because of unannounced reasons? is our property too unsafe?

Safer than driving a vehicle through a flooded casino parking lot trying to make a dice game!

To clarify, not speaking to the levee boards as much as other state/federal agencies...

Wonder how a judge would rule if a guy got picked up for trying to check his place out while 1000s are up at the boats gamblin away?
