They called me and asked if they could cut my power yesterday. I went three days in a row.......and the water was 1 1/2-2 foot higher each day........moving faster than the NOAA website was saying. It was supposed to go over our road today.....but when I got there last night it was moving over it in two spots.........an hour later when I left..........it had filled in a 100 yard of previously unflooded road.
I hear it is nut dup under my cabin now. That is supposed to be around 37 feet. Gauge says 34 and change at 7:30 last night so yall do the math

All I can say is if you believe that you weren't around in 1973! I personally fed starving deer dried leaves out of my hand, after they managed to crawl over other dead deer to get to it! No telling how many deer we captured in a boat and transported out to the levee. They were so tired they wouldn't even fight. When we set em out on the levee we had to go cut green treetops and place em within neck reach of them before they would even eat em. They were so weak they couldn't even stand to walk to food! Don't tell me they all get out! Some yes but the majority no. They move by instinct to the highest ridges yes but when that goes under and it's miles to the nearest high ground they don't have a chance! I watched hundreds die on Dummy Line road thru the DNF in '73. Not a pretty sight1

Yes in any flood you are gona have loss of wildlife....yes I was round in 73 as a 10 yr old and saw alot die too....but I can tell ya this we did not have deer in the hills round here till 73 flood...nature has been dealing with that river alot longer than any of us have been round and nature will run her course......

DQ, of your 13000 acres at Merigold, how many will likely go under as a result of this flood?

Damn near all of it. That applies to just about everything behind the levee

There are gonna be a lot of animals die as a result of this flood if that is the case. I cannot even imagine what this will do to the turkey population. I would think that infrastructure other than cabins will be a big loss as well (fixed stands, box blinds, duck blinds, roads, etc.)

At least the turkeys can fly. There just wont be a hatch. Deerstands will just get some mud in them or float off. We have all our box stands anchored with trailer house ties. We got three of those black plastic condos this year. Will be interesting to see what becomes of them. You will have some culverts wash out maybe, other than that roads will be fine. If the crest stays for a week or more like they predict it is going to absolutley demolish some cabins. Prolonged water will buck floors, and current will buck walls. i think plenty of cabins will be a total loss.

Not to mention all that "trash" that washes up against a wall or something and builds up and creates more surface area and "pushes" the cabin off its supports with the current. Gonna be a bad deal all around.

I may fly over it a few times and take pictures just for future reference. We have a place called Lampard's Garden that is basically the highest spot inside the levee between Memphis and Natchez. The land around it should be above water.......but don't know how many acres will be. It's very close to the river.......so if the deer congregate there and then it goes under.........we've got a problem......it's a long way to the levee from there. I rode in on a boat in 2008 and then trucks that were left out there parked at Lampard's Garden. We were able to ride around a good bit......and the river was at 41 that day at Ark. City. It's hard to say what 7 or 8 more feet will do.
