Anybody have a trackhoe I can borrow?

Postby Deadeye » Tue Apr 26, 2011 3:29 pm

I have this longbeard that I've wasted the entire month of April on... his routine = flying down in middle of 10 acre plowed field and strutt/gobble for atleast 3 hours.. or until hen walks into field.

Decoys do not work... so I figure I could dig a hole in the middle of field about 6 foot deep and hide out for a couple hours.

I'm too ethical to shoot him with a rifle.

Use a layout blind. Shovel dirt on top of it and pop and kill him. Done.

A regular pop up blind in the middle of the field will ruin his day!!

Had the same thing last year. Get there real early, put a b mobile 20 yards in the field and sit and wait. I've got a b mobile if you need to use it.

I wondered if a B Mobile would work but it would almost be like cheating... but at this point, I don't really care anymore. The bad thing is, this knight in Satan's service has passed his genes onto a dozen or so hens... there might be 5 more years of this stuff.

B mobile's not cheating. Cheating would be having you set up on one side of the field, then sending someone to the other side to walk into the field, and having him run right to you. That works too though.

they will walk within a foot of a popup blind that you just set up, it still amazes me. I don't understand how they can be terrified of a guy's silouhette buried in the bushes and not moving at 50 yards, but they will walk right up to a big black box that went up overnight in the middle of a barren field.

Todd, this sounds like a jeff davis county bird that has decided he just don't wanna get killed.......if that's the case, ain't nothing - NOTHING - gonna fix him short of a bazooka, claymore mine field, or a team of navy seals.

i'm just glad he's on your end of the county.

No such thing as cheating when it comes to turkey hunting(except rifles and corn). Use every trick you can think of on that evil sucker.

Gator you sound like you have alot of experience with jeff davis county field birds? I been hunting the same trio of birds there for about three years finally got one to give up and commit suicide this year .Been hunting from oakvale to whitesand since i was old enough to walk and have to agree when an old bird around there makes his mind up you better get creative :D never considered a trackhoe though
