Correction, that forecast is with rain through Tuesday, more rain predicted for Wednesday that could push it higher.
Re: River is fixing to get serious, boys!!!
JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers will decide Tuesday whether to move ahead with a plan to breach a southeastern Missouri levee in a bid to ease flood waters.
Corps spokesman Jim Pogue says agency officials will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss their initial plan to breach the Birds Point levee along the Mississippi River, near Mississippi and New Madrid (MAD'-rihd) counties.
Breaching the levee would reduce the amount of water moving downstream at a time when storms are swelling the river to flood stage at several spots.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon objected to the plan Monday, saying the breach would send "a tremendous amount of water into 130,000 acres of prime farmland."

Re: River is fixing to get serious, boys!!!
From talking with some COE today I really dont see that they have a choice as it is getting real close to going over in populated areas. The land that the river usually gets is some of the most fertile around. Just looks like a free fertilizing. Right now with predictions we will be within three feet of the top off our flood wall around town. Thats through Tuesday not counting anymore rain.
Pictures below is park inside wall that is already flooded. They were using a sky track to move sand bags around Bunge. That wall with town on the other side is what it will go over with a 50' river here.

With all due respect, the big muddy flowing through fields at planting time ain't exactly as simple as "free fertilizer".

1927 ROW of Mounds crevasse

Where it all happened in 1927. Mound landing. What it looks like today!!
hope the link works, the lake(Mounds Crevasse) next to the river is where the river scoured out a hole on both sides of the levee located in Bolivar county.
On Google Earth you can see the scar left from the river rushing in much better IMO.

Was inside the levee last night with my dad and his reports from FEMA and others are thinking it will definitely get to 50 at Ark. City....and very possibly as high as 51.5 or so. That'll be a lot of water on the side of the levee. It was several feet up the side in 08 and that's 6 feet or so higher than that.
Re: River is fixing to get serious, boys!!!
The article in the commercial appeal says it is for sure a 50 year event and could possibly be a 100 year event. Glad i put flood insurance on my house now!
As far as it being up on the side of the levee, at 51 ark city it will be about 4 feet from getting inside my place at Buelah. Its 23 feet off the ground and near eye level with the levee. So there will be a $#!+ ton of water on the levee if it gets that high, maybe 10 feet from the top?

How are the "big" camps like Miller Point, Concordia, Merigold, Catfish, etc. affected by water this high? I know that some camps are higher than others. I know that Catfish even has million dollar homes overlooked the river...I wonder if water gets into those homes?

Merigold should still have some land out of the water.......I don't know how much though.......Catfish will as well. There will be around 10 or so at Merigold that won't have water in them. Catfish has some nice cabins on the river but nothing in the million dollar range. They will have water in most of them at the projected height. Most cabins built after 73 are 1-5 feet above the 73 flood. So if some went with 5 above........they may get lucky.Deltamud77 wrote:How are the "big" camps like Miller Point, Concordia, Merigold, Catfish, etc. affected by water this high? My club, Rosedale, will be completely under 10 feet or more. The park and riverton to the north will be as well. Buelah Island, Merigold, Catfish, Donaldson all have some high bluffs that will stay dry i think. All of 27 behind the levee and huntington point will go under.
Lots of friends moving out of their cabins today. These are ones that didnt flood in 08 but were close. Its gonna effect the majority of your older cabins for sure. Its gonna be close for you huh Deltaquack?
Re: River is fixing to get serious, boys!!!
I expect to start seeing a bunch of pictures of deer congregating on the only dry high ground they can find pretty soon.
Re: River is fixing to get serious, boys!!!
heard that they are guessing a crest of 56 ft at helena but they are not talking about that yet. If that is the case

There will be a day....

And with that likely stories of redneck idiots killing them...or tryingduramax wrote:I expect to start seeing a bunch of pictures of deer congregating on the only dry high ground they can find pretty soon.
