Tungsten-Matrix Any Good?
Anyone shoot Kent Tungsten-Matrix? How do they pattern compared to steel? lead? What choke do you shoot with it?
Tungsten-Matrix Any Good?
I HAD TO SEE IT TO BELIVE IT. IT'S WORTH
THE EXTRA MONEY IF YOU SHOOT AT BIRDS 45 PLUS YARDS...MODIFIED CHOKE IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WHILE SHOOTING A 26 INCH BROWNING
GOLD.
LAST YEAR I HAD SOME SINGLES COME IN , AND
SET THEIR FEET DOWN AT THE 50 YARD STAKE.
I WAS BY MYSELF, 1 SHOT TURNED'EM A FLIP
'JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS OF LEAD.
I USALLY SHOOT STEEL AS THE 1ST SHOT AND TUNGSTON AS THE 2ND.

Tungsten-Matrix Any Good?
The guy with one glove gave me and my brother a box each to try Saturday. I will never shoot them again. Ya'll can have them. He bought them for his clients and offered to let me have a bunch. I said "No Thanks".
After shooting a box, I had 1 widgeon. Thankfully I ran out of those and put in my regular. I would say I average 10-15 shells per limit with Drylocks, 3 1/2" #3's in my SBE with modified choke, and pretty much the same results with improved or cylinder chokes.
Any comments GC?

Kent Tungsten Matrix is the same as lead. Pure and simple. It just costs like 200% as much, and is hard to find ourside of #3 shot. I usually get 4 or 5 boxes as Christmas presents, and it will flat blister a duck.
I, being a cheapskate at heart like all reloaders, refuse to pay that much for a shell, but it is really good stuff. I also quit drinking light beer when I figured out I was paying the same for less taste than regular beer. Great consistent logic, huh?
Meeka, you sure you were shooting kent tungsten-matrix? Blue shell, very high brass, 10 per box? It sounds like you were shooting Bismuth, which is just expensive steel, IMHO. If it was kent stuff, it must have gotten wet or something. Or, it could be that SBE.....

Yep, blue, very high brass, straight from the box to the gun.

Beats me. I have probably shot, maybe 9 or 10 boxes of the stuff (inlaws give it to me for Christmas every year), and have always thought they were pretty darn good shells, other than you are stuck with #3's. Even killed a couple of geese with them that flew over low. Seriously, the Kent Tungsten-Impact shells are the same ballisticly as lead, or so close it does not matter. So you must have either gotten a bad box, or encountered some teflon coated ducks. Or you could be used to the leads from ultra high speed steel, cause these are pretty slow compared to steel. Since the pellets are so heavy, no need to drive them at 1500 fps, plus they would knock your fillings loose at that speed.

Or you could just scream you got a bad calls from the officials. That works for some folks on the board, ya know.....
Meeka IS a good shot though, so something was screwy.

What I have seen is that people tend to shoot these with the same lead as shooting steel....that's what I've done for sure. If you don't hit em', then you can't kill em' with anything. Most people are used to shooting ducks with the steel lead and it just won't work when shooting these other shells IMHO.

There may be something to that lead adjustment thing. That probably explains it. Cause with steel I don't really lead them. Thanks.
I'm probably not willing to experiment "in-season". If he doesn't give the stuff to doctors and such, I may try some out on clay. Come to think of it, since he has plenty, we may do that behind the camp one slow afternoon, but before we get very silly.

Hey Dave: Get me a few boxes too, amigo!
Tungsten-Matrix Any Good?
I purchased 5 boxes of Kent TM, #5's this summer. I've used them on teal and now on big ducks. I have NEVER been happier with a shotshell. I am shooting 2 3/4" 5's and ducks fall like you hit them with lead. It's unreal. after seeing the birds I shot Saturday morning my hunting partners wanted to try them. I gave them some and they could not believe the effectivness of them. I just ordered 10 more boxes....
