Biloxi/Gulfport restaurant recommendations

Postby Wildfowler » Tue Jun 01, 2004 8:22 pm

I'm headed down South tomorrow for a couple of days and would like some recommendations of some of the local flavor.

Will be eating a Mary Mahoney's at least one night during my stay, but looking for other suggestions too. Preferably seafood.

(Gulfcoast, you posted something here one time, but I couldn't find it.)

Thanks.

or LANDRYS in biloxi on hwy 90

CHIMNEYS hwy 90 gulfport

CHAPPEYS on hwy 90 long beach

I think it is called OUTLOOK on hwy 90 in front of long beach harbor

Go west on 90 to Bay St. Louis (25minutes worth the drive) cross the Bay and take a left at the light, go to the down town area and its on the right, if you make it to main st you went to far. I suggest the panned speckled trout covered in lump crab meat and mushrooms or the fried soft crab covered with etouffe, or grilled tuna, try the fried bow tie pasta and artichoke spinach dip for appetizer.
Get there early to get a seat, unless you dont mind waiting in line.
Place is small but you cant ask for better food and ambience anywhere.

My favorites are Minnon's(sp) (Palace Casino-2nd floor), high end, Chimneys (on beachfront--Gulfport); Pier Four---Casino Magic-Biloxi, higher end; Best buy for the buck is the McElroy's Harbor House and mostly seafood; Fisherman's Wharf in O. S. is equally nice and more economical.

I'd recommend McElroy's seafood platter and chit chat with the charter boat skippers and maybe see some daily catches in the afternoons.

Jazzeppis on Porter Street @ the railroad tracks in Biloxi is very good. I would also go to Trap. in the Bay. Vrazels is a great place to eat, too.

The GulfCoast House located in Pascagoula has recently been updated. Great service, food and a separate cigar room, the enclosed porch is perfect for most evenings.

The place in Bay St. Louis downtown by the bay is great, so I second that. I believe the chef was big time in Nawlins once.

Other than the "Waffle House" I always visit "the Blow Fly Inn" on Bayou Bernard, and "Trappani's" in Bay St. Louis!
