Choke question

Postby quackheadbp » Thu Mar 03, 2011 1:03 am

I have a mossberg 835 ultimag and wanted to get opinions on what choke y'all are using and shells. I was thinking heavy 13 with a heavy shot choke but like the jelly head choke. Would the jelly head perform better or worse with heavy 13. Opinions?

Oh and my gun is a 24 inch ported barrel.

I tried hevi 13 straight 6's and 4x5x7 yesterday with a jellyhead in my 835 and I was not at all impressed. The nitro h517T was quite a bit better but still not what I'm looking for.

i have the same gun. 26inch barrell with ports.

tried many different shell choke combinations over the years and this is what patterns best for me.

Mad Max choke .690 constriction i think it is. 3inch number 5's fed premium 2ounze (red box)

killed them dead up to 47 steps. never shot one further than that so that's all i can atest for.

i've tried several chokes and about 15 different shells and that's what's worked best up until this point. I'm sure the nitro shells would pattern better but i ain't payin 70 bucks for a box or whatever they are. don't know where your located but if it's close to oxford new albany area, your more than welcome to try my choke before you spend 50 bucks on one to see how you like it.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

3" Winchester Xtended Range #5's or Nitro 4x5x7 (red w/silver tip) with a Rhino choke (think it is a .660)

will not be dissappointed with the rhino/nitro combo!!!! THE BEST on the market... pricey but worth it... I mean how many are you gonna shoot in a season!!!!! I shoot the nitro 378i through a maxus with the .660 rhino and put 226 pellets in a 10" circle @ 41 steps(long steps)!!!!!!
