Give a puppy or young dog a second chance at life and check out your local animal shelter. I'll bet you'll even find some full blooded pedigrees there. From my experience, these rescued dogs make the best family pets. I have 11 dogs now and 10 were rescued or abandoned dogs that we took in. All are friendly, loyal, loveable dogs that are now part of the family.

we use a a lab/cur mix to blood trail. she's just an ole mut, but got a good nose on her and has never failed us on a deer. she's a good pet too.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

German short haired pointers are great family pets I am told. Peculiar personalities, but great nonetheless. Not sure how they would perform as a blood dog though.

I actually thought about a jack russel or feist but have heard they are way to hyperactive, as far as labs go I figured that would the overwelming vote and was kind of what I was looking for just been kind of shying away after seeing all the health issues they tend to have

Consistently the Lab and Beagle are #1 and #2 childrens pets. i prefer beagle, thats just me. Plus they eat about a third of what labs do, LOL. The "barking beagle" is a myth, it is all in how you TRAIN your dog.

My wiemers are great around my nephews kids. They will deffinatly blood trail but do like alot of exercise. The only down side to them is if you get one you will want and end up getting a second one.

I am gonna vote for the daschund.. Great trackers for sure, very little shedding, will protect the house better than an 800lb gorilla and will make a great family pet.. Easy on the food and LOTS of personality..

small dog-Jagd Terrier (excellent at blood trailing)

Medium size dog-black mouth Cur or mountain cur good at blood trailing and would more than likely be easy to to train to squirrel hunt as well.

I have a 1/2 beagle 1/2 bassett hound that we rescued awesome dog.
A house dog all the way has prolly only barked 20 times in 7 months and most of that is playing with my labs
I might lose a job or a woman, but i will never lose hunting.

We've got a doberman and a dachshund.

The doberman isn't hyper if you compare to the tasmanian devil (you know, on the Bugs Bunny cartoons)

Dachshunds are awesome little pets. Ours tracks ME. Thats about all. I've heard they do make good blood trailers though.

The downside to Danes is they are the shortest lived dogs. Average life span on a great dane is 8-10 years.

There is a reason labs are the most popular dog in the world.

I've had a terrier and friends have had weiner dogs and they are awesome, but can be known to nip unfamiliar people.
