Taxes Anyone??

Postby sunnylab » Mon Feb 07, 2011 10:17 am

does anyone here file taxes..or is an accountant??

The firm i have used in the past charges too much and i do all the work. I'm not paying $575 anymore.

I've gone from being self-employed to w2... so any help would be appreciated.

I don't know how involved your tax return is, but that's pretty cheap IMO.

edited to add: in my expreience you get what you pay for with accountants. A good one will pay for themselves.

i did mine a week ago at H&R block for $24. took about 30 min. Direct deposit expected later this week, I got back $1100. I haven't gotten a refund in 10 years, another benefit of being single!

i agree jeff... but i did all the work and gave them all the numbers. all they had to do was use my information from their questionaire that i filled out.

now i will be a simple w2 employee with deductions for health insurance and some other expenses that i wanted to try and deduct for a maximum tax refund allowable.

to put it in layman's terms... ive gone from being self-employed to broke and not having $&*t!
therefore i really don't care if the IRS tries to contest any of the information on my tax return... they aint gettin nuthin b/c there aint nuthin.

that just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. What about moving expenses for job transfer...healthcare costs....etc. Is there sufficient information on Turbo Tax to take advantage of such deductions??? I've paid plenty of taxes in my day so i'm not ashamed to get out of paying them now....legally of course.

Amazing how the government has pulled the wool over our eyes about taxes. Folks get a refund and feel like they beat the system. I thought the same way before I became self employed. Refund! I win this year!

Wrong.

If everyone had to actually write the yearly check to the government in March or April for his/her share instead of having it withheld monthly, the streets of Washington would look a lot like Cairo does right now. When the money never hits your hand it makes a huge difference.

Instead, politicians found a way to make us feel good about being overcharged all year and then having to pay someone to file confusing paperwork on our behalf, waiting a few weeks to hopefully get our money back, and then hoping like hell that the CPA (or computer software) did it right so we don't get audited, fined, or put in jail.

I couldn't have said it better myself!! When things were "different" for me... i paid $25k one year in taxes....yes i actually wrote the checks to Fed and State....out of my personal checking account. It made me want to throw up. "Good problem to have" most people would say...but those people just didn't understand.

anyway, if somebody wants to do my taxes cheap let me know. we could debate the fairness of the us tax system all day long.

Slab, trust me on this one, it is a good problem to have if you pay 25K in taxes. Let me only say this once, That means you're making money!!!!! Everything is relative!!! I know cause i'm in your shoes only i went from w-2 to self employeed and i gladly write my checks to the gov. Now i dont necessarily agree with how the government utilizes our tax money, but that is another debate all together.

I don't feel I have "beat the system" I was self employed for many years and the taxes I paid were ridiculous. The constant barge of paperwork was one reason I got out of it. It makes me sick to see how my tax dollars are spent. The reason I got a refund is because I'm not married to a soul sucking bitch that is too "@#$%#" busy to change some deductions on a "@#$%#" form. These "@#$%#" cheeseburgers around here have been worrying the $#!+ outta me since December about their "GOSH DARNIT" tax forms so they can go buy "@#$%#" rims and tvs. Not to to mention the dumbass cheeseburger in H&R block that didnt have a "@#$%#" job and couldn't understand why she wasn't getting a refund! If this $#!+ hole of a country keeps down the the road we're on, I'll show those "@#$%#" camel jockeys in egypt how to throw a "GOSH DARNIT" party! I'm so sick of the assholes in washington, the cheeseburgers, the spicks, and the "@#$%#" rednecks. This whole "@#$%#" country needs a wake up call!

We should have to pay taxes in lump sum on April 15, then vote on April 16.
