Credit monitoring/protection service
At some point on here there was a discussion of a service where you pay $15 a month and they send you fraud alerts and allow you to contest discrepancies, etc. Can't find the thread using the search function, anyone remember what I'm talking about? Anyone used anything like that they would recommend? Many thanks.

Re: Credit monitoring/protection service
what credit card co you have? it should have one that a company offers that through them. mine does at 7.99 a month and just about every time i order something and use my card i'll get a call from them telling me there was some action on my card and if it was me to dis-reguard the call. and i paid off a loan and right off i got a letter telling me of an action on the credit deals (3) whatever they are and had a copy of the place where i paid it off and that they had sent that to the credit people. never knew that happened before. and when i changed from direct to dish tv they had to have a credit card no. to check my credit rating and it wasn't long i got a letter telling me someone checked on my credit rating. maybe some do more. this is the first time i've used anything like this.

That sounds pretty good but the thing Im thinking of wasn't specific to one card. Basically if someone opened a card in your name it would tell you, or if your credit got dinged for not paying an account you had paid on, it would give you a chance to put a hold on those dings. It would also allow you to see what reports had been made relating to your score, who had run checks, etc.

i'm not sure mine does the first thing but it does to the others. i'm thinking it does the first too. i know it lets me know if anything changes or anyone checks on my rating. i'll pm you.
Re: Credit monitoring/protection service
just freeze your credit. you can do that for a small one time fee. impossible for anyone to open up anything then.
Re: Credit monitoring/protection service
Thats blackmail just keep your credit score around 400 and you wont have any problems lol

Equifax has a service called Score Watch.
I have had it for the last 2 years and has helped me pull my score up a bunch.
It will let you know every time your score changes and give you an idea why. Worked for me.

How exactly has this too helped to pull your score up?

Re: Credit monitoring/protection service
That's probably only for Equifax. There's three credit reporting companies and all three are different and have different listings for your report. Your bank may use Transunion......your credit card and vehicle may use Equifax......and your Mortgage lender may use Esperian. If you don't get one that watches all three it won't do you any good.teul2 wrote:Equifax has a service called Score Watch.

As I was (really still am) ignorant as to how credit really worked, I could see when my score went down, the reason, and then, not do that any more.ACEINTHEHOLE wrote:How exactly has this too helped to pull your score up?
My score really improved because I was paying all my bills on time more than anything, but if my score dipped 20 points one month for no reason, I could figure out why, and fix it.
It has helped me learn more about my credit, and I have my score well up above seven hundred now.
I know it is not all 3 bureaus, but, if you improve one, you'll improve them all.
