it has a very distinctive grapefruit overtone to it that makes it really nice and crisp in the hot summer months! it is one that you can find at the grocery cheaper than the good beer stores (at least in b'ham).

Re: Favorite Beer
i picked up a TON of stuff this duck season.
honestly, i need to have a get-to-gether and just offer up the beer too, b/c i'm running out of room.....been on a bourbon kick for a WHILE.
can't remember the first name of any of them, but they're all put up. had a few up in nova scotia that i really enjoyed.....all IPA's, double IPA'S and the like............not a belgian "wild yeast" fan.

Re: Favorite Beer
Last time I was in Atl, I had my cab driver stop at a Whole Foods on the way from the airport to downtown. I picked up a six pack each of Smuttynose Finestkind IPA and Lagunitas IPA. I am sure there are probably better places to go, but I was only there for one night, and I only had room to put about a 12-pack in my bag, so I wasn't too worried about finding a huge selection.donia wrote:anybody got any suggestions for good beer stores near atlanta airport? driving over tomorrow and will have some time to kill, so i'm beer huntin'!
Re: Favorite Beer
ended up at Hop City (1000 marietta, atlanta, ga)...after the previous 5 liquor/beer stores pointed me to the malt liquors when i asked if they had any high gravity beer
, should'a known with all of the bars on the windows . hop city is a paradise, where good beer is concerned!!! all craft brews and the selection is plentiful.

There was a definitive flavor of red wine but not so much to be overpowering, I would definitely buy some more.donia wrote:interesting....so was there a definite red wine flavor?? like they mixed the belgian and wine or was it more of a subtle flavor?Z Davis wrote:Had Dogfish Head Red & White this past week, it's different but good.
Went to Buster's in Memphis last week and picked up some Dogfish Head 90 min IPA (great IPA), Burton Baton (really enjoyed this one) and Pangaea (have not tried it).
Tried the Sah'tea a couple of weeks ago and really liked it, it was very similar to Hoegaarden.
Has anyone tried any of the Bruery beer? They are limited on the states they distribute to but I found it in Georgia when my parents lived there. If you run across some pick it up.
Also in my quest for outstanding brews I have found that you can purchase rare beer on Ebay, just wondering if anyone has tried this.

seems like i've always heard kroger in jackson. we (my wife) got 6 cases for the year, since it goes so fast. actually called the beer store here and got them to call me as soon as it came in and i went around to all the stores and picked it all up. if you happen to get to b'ham, vulcan beverage had quite a few cases left, but said his goes fast, too. most likely have to get it from closer to the source, down south.

That place is literally a couple blocks from my house. Really cool store with a pretty good selection.
I recommend Highland Package Store for the best selection. That guys has just about anything/style you could want. I've seen a lot of people mention Vulcan Beverages in Bham as a good selection, but Highland PS blows Vulcan out of the water.
Re: Favorite Beer
The Diplomat Deli in Vestavia has a really good selection too.

Re: Favorite Beer
I know Vulcan and The Diplomat well, but I have not been the Highland PS for beer before. I will have to check that out next time I am there.
Thanks for the info.
