Delta Waterfowl local being started
Listen up guys I sent a little email to DW the other day that drew some attention from a few folks in Delta. I wont' get into the meat of the email, but it was about local chapters and how we could bring back some life in our conservation efforts.
I believe that a lot of DU chapters have become a little to lethargic. Do not get me wrong- I have no intention of trying to disband DU chapters. We need both groups and members working for waterfowl. I am a member of both, and will remain a member of both. But, right now my focus is on Delta.
I was asked to contact their development specialist, Joel Brice. Joel has pledged any and all support from Delta to me to start setting up local chapters in MS. This includes suggestions for framework, fundraising, projects, and more. The big part of what I just said is suggestions. He said that they would be our chapters and we would be the deciders on how they would be run. Now thats a little different from DU. That does not mean we would have free reigns to do what ever we wanted to do though.
There is only one chapter in MS and that is in West Point. He has left it up to me to get the ball rolling on setting up new chapters and letting him know what we need to get it done.
What I need now is for anyone who is interested in setting up a chapter in their county, town , or city to do is reply or contact me.
I am not an employee of Delta and will not be getting paid to do this. This is something I feel will benefit all waterfowlers in MS. If you are not serious about this, then don't start it if you are not willing to finish it.
Email me if interested or reply

Joel seems to be a nice fella. I've talked with him several times in the last few weeks. I donated 4 hunts which were auctioned at the West Point dinner. I think we need a few Delta chapters around here, but if they wind up taking the same route as DU banquets, I'll be pulling my support.

I have plenty of Delta Information, I plan to drop off some more of Delta Waterfowl Reports at some sporting goods stores.
They have furnished me with plenty of information.
If you need additional help, contact me.
I live in Jackson and we have a chapter, but would love to be more involved with ones in the Delta.

Wingman, banquets are a great place for fund raising, but a chapter needs to function outside of a banquet. We are wanting active chapters. Waterfowl education meetings for youth and older, different fund raising efforts(golf turnaments, sporting clay tounaments, etc..), projects such as hen houses wood duck boxes, local wetland management, banding trips.
I times are busy right now for you, but we can get you started.

I talked w/ a guy, I think John, at Delta last week about the same thing. He sent me some good info on Delta..I'm interested in getting one going in the Jackson area. He told me they only have the 1 in state, West Point..He did say the chapters will be run the way the chapters want them run. No regional or district mgr looking over your shoulder, criticizing your net ratio compared to the other 200 chapters in state.
(I was on the DU comm. for years, they finally pissed me off.)

I am not presently a member of DU anymore and have thought seriously about joining with Delta.I would love to be a member of a chapter as long as chapter functions are all alcohol free.Don't get me wrong here, fellows,I like Bud too,but there's a time and place for everything. The last DU banquet I went to basically helped me to forget to send my dues in.I refuse to take my 10 year old to another drunk party. And I agree with gadwall about the other events that should take place.I would love to take my 10 year old and help put up wood duck boxes. We could get the materials and let the local high school FFA put theem together for us.Already talked to our agriculture teacher and he said not a problem at all.All he would need is material and design prints.Just my $.02 worth.

I met john delvany at the du fesitval several years ago. He is a great guy, and someone I am proud to call my friend. Hes promised me, delta will never go the pc bs way that others have gone, and as long as that hold true, they have my full support. I would be willing to help any way possible. DW has a national tie in with HRC now as well. travis

AND...Delta supports predator management. They have an ad in Fur-Fish-and-Game mag about the importance of trapping in nesting areas.

I met with several of the DW guys, Joel included, this summer in Oxford. They seem like super people. They have some great ideas and actually want to work in conjunction with DU. However, they are HUNTERS, with guns and everything. Most importantly they think hunting is a GOOD thing. I wish them well im MS. They left some videos that explain their mission statement and show some of their projects. If anyone is interested in seeing any of these let me know.

I agree, Goose, I met Devney last winter have talked to him numerous times since. Seems every duck festival I go to he's there spreading the word. He's a great guy and we're lucky to have someone like him working for the ducks (and Hunters).
