Why was this season so bad

Postby WTRFLR » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:34 pm

What is everyones opinion on why the greenwood area did not get the BIG ducks they normally do.

1. DRY DRY DRY
2. Everything was disc up already ( very few feilds anywhere with stubble left)
3. It cant be weather, because we had some very good cold fronts

We talked to guys all over the delta and very few had a solid year in fields, most ducks were on natural brakes and sloughs and never left.

You would think in dry years like this if you had water you had ducks but that was certainly not the case.

Guys in those brakes and sloughs were saying the same thing in reverse last season. Both winters had very good cold fronts. 2009-2010 season was awful for us who hunt around the trees, but fields guys were happy. This 2010-2011 season has been real similar to 2008-2009 where we killed alot of ducks in the brakes/timber.

Apparently you were hunting some gar holes because most everyone I know had a good season.

for the most part, sloughs were a hit compared to fields this year. no doubt about that.

I went through almost 4 cases of shells. 3 bands in woods and fields. I thought all the stars lined up for one of the best seasons ever. Ms River low, all local rivers low, cold weater North of us, I had water, and bloody mary time started before 9 with limits most mornings. After the hunt of course.

Our year wasn't "killer' but we didn't get skunked this season either. I would call it "slightly above average".

Apparently you are the only one that thinks it was bad. We had lots of mallards, early and all through the season. Not one complaint here except I had to work every now and then and couldnt go more
