Turkey Shotgun

I've been thinking about getting a shotgun just for turkeys. I would want it to be an automatic. I have been looking at the Mossberg 935 & was curious if anyone had any experience with them? I really don't wanna spend as much as a benelli or browning would cost.

My 935 NWTF edition is a champ, love it, use it for duck and turkey, with 3" or better it works like a charm. On the down side because there always is one... it is heavy, about twice the weight of a gun twice its price. Get one, buy it used for about $300 tops.

If you're good you're going to shoot 5 turkeys a year. I wouldn't trust an auto to go boom and I just belly crawled a hundred yards through a briar patch to close the distance. That's just me. If you're going to buy a turkey specific gun get a pump, there are just too many things to go wrong with an auto. 5 shots a year, even if you are shooting the heaviest turkey loads, isn't going to make any difference on how much recoil is felt which is the only upside to an auto imo.

Either way you decide to go I suggest going with one of the new turkey tactical stocks. Pistol grips from Benelli or Mossberg and Remington's thumbhole turkey. It makes all the difference when you hold that gun on your shoulder for an hour when you're waiting for ol' tom to show himself.

I want the auto because I can't shoot a pump. Just never have shot em. I either dont shuck the shell or I short stroke it.

I'm not worried about the kick. I only want the auto for the 2nd shot that I have had to rely on too many times. I will definitely get one with a turkey tactical stock.

I'd say your best bet would be with an 11-87. I got my Dad a 935 and it isn't a very high quality firearm. It won't shoot any type of red shell. Don't know why but it won't cycle them. It'll shoot then jam everytime.

I vote for the 11-87 as well, bought 2 before this past season and had absolutely no problems with them. And duck hunting is 10 times rougher on a gun than turkey hunting, unless your low crawling thru mud. I have since purchased the thumbhole stock and will use one for turkey hunting as well!!

Red dot scope EQUALS epic failure! to many what if's in that equation. Keep it simple. If you must have sights go with some adjustable fiber optics. I'm a minimulist though so that is just personal opinion.
