Rhino vs. Ranger
Im looking to buy a side by side but need some input!! I will be hunting in water and rice , will the ranger and its belts keep
me going??

if you want the most comfortable, most power, best ride, most room then get the ranger.
if you want to actually be able to ride it and not think about riding it while its in the shop then get a rhino.
i had 2 rangers and had horror stories with them
I have had 2 rhinos and they have been bullet proof. What they lack in power and room they by far make up with on reliability.

someone asked me one time why i had 2 rangers and I told them so i could ride one and have one in the shop and rotate them out.

same belt drive the rhino has, and if you are a relatively big fella, the rhino isn't as comfortable, but can go through tighter trails/spots than a ranger can. i've got an '06 660 rhino that has taken me virtually anywhere i've tried to go with it with plenty of "rip snort" to boot, but at 6'3" 270 it is a bit cramped for prolonged rides. to and from stands/blinds and riding around camp for an hour or two isn't too bad, but more than that and i'd need breaks to get out and stretch my legs.
the newer efi models are geared a little lower for reverse (complaint on early models) and seem to have a little more torque with the 700cc motors, but the 700cc and 800cc rangers i've driven are torque monsters!
both have seemingly limitless upgrades and add ons as well as good web sites for excellent info for making repairs or trouble shooting problems.

Have you considered the Honda Big Red? I drove one of those a while back and it seemed nice and I'm 6'10'' 230lbs. Seems like more of a strictly work vehicle. Wouldn't really want to trail ride it.

i'm interested to see how the tranny holds up to the abuse it would take in a hunting environment. same tranny as rincon/rubicon type - same type used in cars....closed housing fluid driven.

I would take a ranger over rhino every time. This topic is a alot like chevy vs ford, but I was very displeased with the Rhino.
If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.

I've been considering getting a utv as well. Donia, why wouldnt the transmission hold up? Its held up on all their atv's. Im not the best at taking care of my toys and my foreman is absolutley bulletproof. 9,000 miles and 1,000 hours never in shop.

i'm just thinking about the overall weight of the utv over atv...could be that the tranny is the exact same one that they use in the civic (i think that's the one) then weight shouldn't be an issue-i was thinking it may be a scaled down model of the tranny for the atv and honda says that the big red sports the same tranny as the rincon/rubicon. i didn't know that the tranny in the foreman was the same as the rincon/rubicon, if that's the case then i'm completely wrong. i haven't kept up with the utv market in the last couple of years, but heard from early owners of the rincon/rubicon that they pulled very sluggish in heavy stuff and bogged badly with oversized tires - like they were geared too high (even in low on the rubicons). that could be completely different now, with bigger motors driving the trannies, though. one downside is if the bike is swamped, it is pretty expensive to get the tranny clean, with all the lil orafices the fluid has to pass through.

Have a Polaris Ranger 4x4 and never had any trouble out of it in 3 years. I just get everything drained after the season and general maintinance and runs like a top.

I bought the Ranger 400HO. I am pretty rough on my toys and I have not had a problem this season. I may be eating these words later, but so far I am very happy. (400 & 500) seem to be lighter and just move right along when loaded.

a guy in my club bought a new big red before season and he went everywhere my rhino went. the belt drive in all of these machines is the weak point and the transmission in the big red should be nearly bullet proof. if i was going to buy a new machine today the 3 seater big red would be on my short list. it does not have a low range that you can shift it in to and it feels a little funny waiting on the transmission to shift but it is a nice machine. i have no idea what the price is at the moment but when he bought his he commented that he bought it cheaper than a rhino. it is a lot bigger though.

I looked at a Kawasaki Teryx. 700 EFI and a ton of power and Im 6'3 and 235 and it had plenty of leg rrom and it has the seating like the Rhino but more stretch room. Locking Dif and push button 4x4.
