Late Season Honey Hole

Postby Blackduck » Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:02 pm

Every year at this time birds start to change. We notice them flare off of blocks. Calls become useless and they are as wary as a Gordon's wife after he has had a few cocktails. I try to keep one hole secret. We don't hunt it and don't even check on it till time comes. This morning a buddy and I snuck off to one of our "secret holes" A place you only hunt once or twice a year and usually in late season. 6woodies, 5greenheads, a spoon. Done by 730. Great time esp this late in the season.

Pink flagging. It was in my friends bag. I asked him WTF he would need flagging for. He's a seasoned outdoorsman and getting lost or forgetting a stand is just about outta the question.

His response. "nothing will screw up someones duck hunt like some strategically placed pink flagging". I quit asking questions after that. Deviant "illegitimate child".

I carry pink flagging everywhere. I can get lost in my backyard.

Congrats on a good hunt.

I had not shot a shoveler all year and finally got pissed a week or so ago and water wacked one. It was a slow morning

We hunted a hole like that this morning. 10 gw teal and 8 mallards by 7:20.
There will be a day....

We hit our late season honey hole Friday morning. 24 birds by 6:45. I've never seen anything like it. It was like shooting the duck flush over at Willows.
