What knot do you tie in your anchor line?

Postby Wingman » Mon Dec 03, 2001 11:18 pm

I have used the two-half hitches forever..you know the old tent knot. But I lose 8-10 anchors a year and am looking for a better knot. I have tied my newest 2 dozen dekes with the fisherman's knot, followed by a two-half hitch. I am using the tarred seine twine. Anybody have a fail-safe knot that will stand the test of time?

TRY USING THE AVERY LINE WITH THE CORD CRIMPS, IT'S WORKED GOOD FOR ME, HAVEN'T LOST ONE IN 2 YEARS.

Square knot. It never fails. The tarred line will hold knots really good.

The first thing I ever learned as a Cub scout was how to tie a square knot. With the exception of monofilament line, the square knot is still hard to beat.

The Avery crimp system works well but requires the "tangle-free" type line which beavers and nutria love to cut !!

Bowline on both ends. No matter how hard you tighten the knot you can still get it undone. Also easy to tie. I believe that the square knot will slip if it doesn't have pressure on it. Hope this helps.

Yeah, but rabbits don't live in trees unless they're lying on the ground. How 'bout a squirrel? Will that work?

Anatidae, I don't think Wingman said the rabbit came out of a hole in the tree, just that he ran around it.

It wastes a lot of line, but I use a palomar knot. It is the strongest knot I have ever seen, but you have to cut it to get it undone.

GC, Thanks for the post I never thought about that one. I switched to that knot for fishing hooks/lures about three years ago. You can tie that one in the dark. baldduck

Anat..you cornball. The rabbit comes out of the hole (IN THE GROUND) around the tree and back in the hole. That's the way they taught us to remember it in Scouts.
POLL: How many of you expert knotmen were Scouts? Eagle in 1990 for me.

GC, what's a palomar knot?
