Good taxidermist?
Good taxidermist?
Looking for a good taxidermist around the greenwood or jackson area. I have two hooded mergansers (male and female) and a banded hen redhead that i shot last year but just haven't had the funds to get them mounted. Will a taxidermist still be able to mount these even though they have been in the freezer for a year. Plus looking for a good taxidermist that has reasonable prices. Thanks

You need to take them to my dad, The Waterfowler. Do a search on here and get a look at his work. I make very frequent trips from Jackson to Olive Branch and can pick up the birds for you if you don't want to travel. I can also deliver when they are ready. He gets 250 per duck.

The waterfowler does great work. I use Philip Hewwit in McComb will post up numbers when I get home. He does great work also.

Phillip is a fireman so it is hard to get up with him and yes he does do a jam up duck. The only thing that you really have to worry about is the feet getting dried out and hard but its an easy fix for a guy that knows what they are doing.

i would definatly tak'm to MR PAT, hoodies are pretty ducks, but also it is my understanding one of the more difficult to mount correctly. he did a beautiful one for me a few yrs back, and is the only duck in my wife wanted displayed in the main part of the house. the rest are in my office's
he also did a pair of pheasants for me that turned out extremely well

I'll buck the trend. I've seen some of Pat's work, and it looks good, you should consider him. But to say he is #1 and everyone else is behind him is a stretch. There are some guys in the South doing ducks that are ridiculous. Look at Shane Smith or David Luke's work. If I was having a bird done in the South, they would definitely be on my list.
No reason to limit yourself to the south either, you can ship these things if you want. I'll say this, taxidermy work is like hiring a hooker. You might get serviced for $10 by a transvestite, but your gonna live with that image the rest of your life. I'd spend the extra coin, and have the pretty image burned in.
Disclaimer: I don't own any mounted birds, and have never hired a tranvestite.

+1 and I'd even venture to say that Pat would agree with you.

I can't say he is a "good" taxidermist, but GH22 is very much like a cheap taxidermist. Big girls everywhere know they can go to his crib and get a "free mount."
