Warning to hunters!!!!
Caney Creeker- I'm not trying to start anything with you, and maybe I am reading too much into your post, but it sounds to me like you don't have an ATV- therefore you are either jealous of those that do, or your are trying to make yourself out to be the Daniel Boone of duck hunting. I personally think it is farfetched to say that those who use 4 wheelers are lazy duckhunters. It is fine if you prefer to walk, but don't try to make others feel inferior to you and your "all natrual" way of hunting.

Warning to hunters!!!!
Sprint...
No it is not fair.
But let me share a short story with you:
Last year, I took my 16 year old Bro-In-Law deer hunting (black powder) for the first time. He killed a deer. I got down from my stand and went to help him retrieve it. When I found it, it was a 1 point. One broke tine, the other about 1" long. He shot it for a doe.
We picked it up and started out with it, I told him it was not legal and we need to report it to the GW. He was scared, he could have got a ticket. Well we bit the bullet and took the deer in. He got a short speech on being damn sure about what you shoot, and then the GW told him it was an honest mistake under the circumstances, tagged the deer and let us go.
But before we left he told us even though the deer was tagged, another GW could still write us up and take the deer. Why?
According to state law it is illegal to transport any illegal game. So basicly He said it was ok with him but it still was not legal.
We did not get stopped again, but if we had, I don't think it would have been fair to be ticketed, but it would have been the law.
I do see your point, but do you see mine?

Warning to hunters!!!!
Mag,
On Caney Creek Management Area you can use an ATV on any gated road you just can not leave the road...it is the law.
In the BNF you can use them anywere, when hunting here, we use ATV's. But the down side to that is so does every one else.
Lets not make this an anti ATV post (sorry if I sound that way) it is all about following the rules that govern the areas we hunt.
Olso,
I think those over 65 can get special usage permits as well as diabled hunters.

I've avoided this one but now I'll interject my opinion. All ATVs should be banned from WMAs period. As far as fair goes, is it fair for a hunter that you know has over the limit in his boat to load up, talk to the warden and not get checked only to have your decoy bags dumped and boat ransacked? Why no it isn't. But that is the law and the Warden can choose who he inspects and tickets and who he doesn't. He can do this because he is the LAW. If he told you one thing and did another it still don't matter because he is the LAW. Caney Creek guy, I totally agree with lazy and I also know for a fact that there are special access areas for those 65 or over or anyone with a disability. Also disability can include someone who can't walk 2 miles carrying gear. A simple call to you family physician could take care of that problem.(kinda like a doctor's excuse back in high school) Before anyone replies, I ain't into confrontation and don't give a crap if you don't like my ATV opinion.

Sheeez.... how in the hell can you now go to real duck hunters dont ride 4 tires.... bwhahahaha. Get real guys.
My only REAL question in all this is, if the gw's knew the guys would ride the 4 wheelers in, against the law, but been ok up until that point, and they where going to be up early anyway, why not be in the same parking lots before those guys unloaded and tell them? Seems to me, a law breaker who does it on purpose, is gonna find a way and ought to have his ass hammered, but someone who breaks the law on accident SHOULD be given every chance to not do it. Guess its the same reason they dont tag baited dovefields they already know they are going to write tickets on, even though they know they could STOP a unknowing person from breaking a game law. Lets see, if I let a crime be committed Id be of low moral content, and possibly guilty myself. But if a gw does it, hes simply doing his job? Naw, those guys normally do an excellent job, but to let people unknowingly break the law when it could have been prevented is wrong, imho.
Duckmen, you are right, and I did think of that before getting involved in this (if you weren't there, you don't know I always go to), but I can see some folks getting ticketed when they never knowingly would have. Had I gone there with some of the folks I occasionally hunt public ms with, Id been ticketed, and been clueless. For the law to know that, and not try to stop me, is wrong, imho. travis

Bluwtr....sometimes the truth hurts.
Folks get on here and complain alot....and ask for some relief.......then they get their feelins' all hurt when no one tells'em what they want to hear.
Everybody's got problems.....but somehow, they just deal with it and move-on!
Would ya'll please go get a dictionary and look-up the difference between s-u-s-p-e-c-t and e-x-p-e-c-t (as long as we're tryin' to communicate).....ya'll STILL ain't got it right! While you're at it, look-up e-x-p-e-c-t-a-n-t, too......'think it (in some cases) has somethin' to do with being pregnant (only pertains to females, though). So, if you are either a male or non-pregnant female duck hunter, you would be considered an un-expectant hunter. However, if you are female and expecting....you are an expectant hunter, so Game Wardens couldn't write you a ticket (since they only give those to 'un'-expectant hunters)....Got it? <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote
Law is law, who gives a crap of when it was being enforced, It was posted and they should have known better. Just cause I see Goose riding through an illegal trail and not get a ticket doesn't mean I can. I don't worry about what others are doing I worry about if I'm legal. Your quote above would not apply to me because you can bet that I read every pamphlet and stop every morning at the check in station before I enter. But if I was to have something like that happen I damn sure wouldn't cry because I got caught and they didn't.
Seems to me this all comes back to something Goose said in an earlier post. I don't take much stock in someone getting a ticket and saying they were mistreated without seeing it first hand. regardless if they have always been able to do it before.
If it were you it would definitely be something, wouldn't it!?!?! I agree that laws are made to be followed and rules should not be broken or stretched for certain people but the main thing here is that the law has just started being enforced as of last Friday.

Warning to hunters!!!!
I only have one thing to add to this discussion.
Writing tickets is a money making thing, sure sometimes a little leniency would be in order if the situation warrents it. But when so much of our system is money driven we would all be better off not to expect any.
Most likely if the GW's seemed to be targeting duck hunters, it was because they probally were.
Next question is WHY???
Duck hunters tend to gather in groups all hunting a common area. Deer hunters do not.
From a revenue collecting stand point, this is a goldmine. All because the local GW's supervisor told him he was not writing enough tickets.
Is this right? YES...inforceing the law is always right.
Is this fair? NO...but what can we do about.
I still like the law (no ATV's on WMAs) it serves a good purpose ... I don't like other laws on the books, but I still have to abide by them.

I agree with G-boose and others that maintain it was unfair if the agents decided to ticket BIG on a BIG day......pretty crappy.
One way to look at all this is to consider stuff like this as 'hunter education' (not that those involved in this particular case intended to break any laws). I'm glad they shared their experience with the rest of us......maybe we'll ALL pay more attention to 'details'.
When I have a question about an interpretation of a law, I call the local agents and get a clarification. I realize ya'll may have gotten some 'bad' info from otherwise reliable sources, but the guys I know around here, have NEVER 'steered me wrong.
I'm not sure about the Corps, but the MSDWF&P's has a person that monitors their web site and answers questions submitted via e-mail.....Bill's been very helpful. Everybody I've had contact with seems to be willing to help a guy that's making an honest effort to do 'right'. I hope, in ya'll case, the judge will do the same. If he doesn't, you'll make sure you cast a ballot in the next election.
Again, GOOD LUCK!

Warning to hunters!!!!
i hunted all weekend and did not see a warden < we had two wheelers in on both days and did not get a ticket or even checked, we didi however get informed that there have been at least five wheelers stolen this season(deer) and that wheelers were ok to retieve down game, not to access a hunting area.

I dont buy the fact a group of game wardens decided to do this for the money raised from the tickets. Id be more inclinded to think someone smarted off and pissed them off into doing it. GWs writing tickets for the money raised would be incredible, you know how many times people COULD be ticketed, and arent. cause of a foulup, not a concious desiscion? Ive been ckd in that areas, and others, by ms gw's, and ticket happy they have never appeared. Something else drove this desiscion when to start. I still think they should have told people that morning before the law was broken. travis
