Hunting Public Land in Arkansas?
Hunting Public Land in Arkansas?
Do any of you guys hunt the WMAs in Arkansas? If so are there any unspoken rules oe ettiquettes that one should know before going in? Thanks for any input.

yes and yes.
Some of the WMA's in NE Arky allows hunters to claim there holes before the season by leaving out decoys. If no one is in a claimed hole after shooting time, you can hunt it, but if they show up late they may ask you to move or hunt with them. Just don't try to beat someone to their hole. Also, don't set up to close. Don't skybust. Shoot the ducks over the decoys. Just common sense stuff.

don't go get in a blind even though it is first come first serve on the wma's. those blinds have been in families for generations and it's all but a garaunteed fight when they show up to hunt, unless they are real nice. seen it work both ways. and be real polite and remember your an ooser to them. they have some gorgeous places to hunt over there. good luck

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day

common sense stuff...dont shoot at squirrels just because you set up in the wrong spot...this will flare ducks that others are working. dont setup close to a group thats already got their spot. and remember there is a very fine line between pass shooting and sky busting

I agree it shouldn't be talked about on the internet! But the one issue someone brought up that i have a problem with is, if it is in fact a public area, even though they allow people to leave out decoys, if you get to a spot first, thats tuff chit for the other party. Now that being said, if you have room i would definitly invite them to hunt but i certainly would not leave. public means just that and if you get up at 2:00 to beat the crowd, you deserve the spot you picked. end of subject

Know the rules for the specific wma/ public area you may be going....shell limit, openning/launch time for the boat ramp, lots of rules and regs that are different to TN and Miss....You will undoubtedly meet nice folks, but we have had issues with the new young wish I was a prostaffer/ killer type. Do your scouting mid day, and if you aren't familiar or comfortable pay an experienced guide. They will keep you out of trouble until you are familiar with the area and the way things are done.

That's all well and good if people still actually scouted and put the time in to find a hole. It is quite frustrating when you put in said time and work and some yahoo has been scouting your shooting and is sitting his worthless arsh in the hole when you get there. Public yes, but some common sense would go a long way.

two hunters from michigan got run out of a hole at the point of a gun on rainey break 4 days ago. i talked with them personally. they called a game warden and he told them to let it go and did nothing. they didn't know if they were locals or not. been lots of ducks killed there this season.
