Should I go back and look some more

Postby grandrews32 » Mon Dec 13, 2010 8:36 am

Question,
I shot at a big deer last night between 50 to 75 yards away. It ran back in the same way it came out. I didnt find any blood. It is real thick were I shot at the deer. It is a sage grass thicket. T  here is a creek probrally 150 yards away from where I shot at the deer. Should I go back and look for the deer more or should I let it go.

Get someone you know with a dog and go see if the dog can find any blood. Only YOU know deep down inside how good of a shot you made and whether the deer reacted as if he had been hit or not. Don't really know what else to tell you other than you owe it to the deer to make as good of a search as you possibly can to try to locate it. If you hit it, there will be some blood somewhere, might not be much, but there will be some blood/chunks of meat and should be some hair at the point of impact.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The question you should be asking yourself is why shouldnt you go back and look. Deep down inside I think you know the answer, and I agree with DD you owe it to the deer, the sport, and to yourself to go look

Any updates on the deer?

They found a mainframe 8 pt saturday with 3 drop tines that was shot a month ago. The hunter thought he missed it and hunted it evertime he went out for the last three weeks but didn't see it again. He was certain that he had missed it. Another hunter decided to go walking that area saturday just to see what he could find. He walked right up on it.......but was covered in cuckleburs to his armpits. Most of the carcass had been eaten but the horns were fine. So.........you never know.

Yea your right, I shot one last year that I didnt find out there. I got my cousin to look the next day and he didnt find it. I went hunting 2 days later in the morning and I decided to look one more time for the deer and I found it. It didnt go not further than 15 yards from where I shot it.

Be sure and look good in the creek. If he was hit good he should be in there, if he made it that far.
