Warning to hunters!!!!
CaneyCreekDucker, Thanks for the help! Hell that is just what we were wanting to hear. I don't know how I ever made it without hearing you say that. You have not heard anything we were saying!!!!! You are just another :confuse
Warning to hunters!!!!
Duckmaster......I DO appreciate your comments, and as I've already said, there are obviously some things that I don't know about this situation and admit that I may be dead wrong in some of the 'assumptions' I have made. With that in mind, all I have to go on, is what folks have said here.
The Law Enforcement personnel (Corps of Eng. and MDWF&P) in the area "I" hunt have never given me ANY reason to believe that they are anything OTHER THAN professional. So, when someone suggests that there's a problem (and they blame it on agents in those Depts.), I get a little defensive, cause these guys have a job to do (just like the rest of us) and they (the one's I've gotten to know pretty well), take that job seriously.....just like I take mine.
I'm not 'bashing' anybody, here....merely raising the possibility that there may be other issues that have been overlooked. I agree, that it appears duck hunters might be bearing the brunt of a problem that the 'riders' started (if it, in fact, turns-out to be as ya'll have stated). That's not right.....and I'll be the first to stand by your side. I don't like to be preached 'at', either, so I'm pretty cautious 'bout standin' near the pulpit.....forgive me if I appeared 'judgemental'.
For the record....my wife and I have hunted public land for 25 years. We joined a lease this year (1st time, EVER), in hopes that we wouldn't have to deal with typical problems associated with hunting on 'public' land. After sittin' in a rice pit for 2 weeks (and wishing the ducks would come to US), we much prefer freelancing on public land because it challenges and tests your waterfowling skills, and requires that you take yourself 'to the birds'......to us, that's what hunting should be......testing one's ability to deal with variables. I don't consider myself any better o' hunter than anyone else on this site.....who cares, anyway?
Now, before my friends (and other folks)on here that hunt 'pits', get the idea that I think field hunting out of a pit blind is not duck hunting, that's not what I mean, because field hunting (as I've recently re-dicovered) has it's own set of variables that challenge hunters. I'm not use to hunting 5 days (Tues-Sun during T-giving) and killing a grand total of 6 mallards. Or hunting this past weekend (F-S-S) and firing 1 shot. But truthfully, I can deal with that better than the 'circus' that goes-on, at my usual public spots on opening day and I've been able to enjoy the solitude of hunting with folks of my own choosing. That means a lot, sometimes.
I didn't even HUNT opening day of duck season, last year.....'cause I knew I probably wouldn't endure the frustration of the multitude of inconsiderate joy-seekers that come crawling out from behind every damn tree for one day a year....opening day. However, I managed to enjoy the other 47 days I hunted on public land last year, the 45 days the year before, and the 42 days the year before that. So, your suspicions about me being strictly a 'lease' hunter are incorrect.
'Lease hunting' is something I wanted to try, so if I ever wanted to comment on it, I'd feel qualified to do so. Folks have their own reasons for what they do and how they go about doin' it.....ain't really nonna my bidness, but sometimes I get in trouble by 'makin'-it such. So, I'll keep my snout outa ya'lls problem up there, since it appears I haven't said what you want to hear. I WAS trying to be helpful. Good luck, fellas!

Warning to hunters!!!!
I frequently hunt the public marshes from the LA to the AL line in Jackson, Harrison and Hancock Counties. I have land leased down here, and 2 leases in the Delta. I can assure you that neither being a "lease hunter" or a "public hunter" makes you more or less of a "real duck hunter." You can either do the deed, and are a stand up guy, or not. 'Nuff said.
If duck hunters are the only ones that are being singled out, then that is wrong. However, I don't know enough about the whole thing right now to comment.
Frankly, you can't use a 4 wheeler to hunt public down here, unless you can breathe water

I agree with you, Mark......but who's comments are you taking exception to? 'Lease/Public' hunting doesn't make you more or less........agreed!

Warning to hunters!!!!
Damn Anatidae, you sure know how to ruffle feathers!!
In defense of both sides--you are both right. Down here on the coast it rained in the summer and spring a hell of alot more than it has this fall, therefore the joy riders could very well have done the damage. I have seen the writing of tickets before the announcement of change here on the coast from different agencies, yes it sucks. But by the same token, I agree with Anatidae about the posting not being made. I'm not saying it didn't happen trust me, stranger s@#t has happened, but it seems that changes are usually announced in the local paper, MS Outdoors or other media.
Anyway I just thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth (probably only worth a plug nickle). Best of luck with everyones season and be safe.

Warning to hunters!!!!
Duckmen,Caney what would do:
1: This is an area where you have hunted for years.
2: Ruled changed but GW told you hunters would not be bothered. (Pamphlet states no atvs)
3: You had made several scouting trips already this this year and nothing said
4: All squirrel and deer hunters had used atvs and none where ticketed.
5: You returned from morning hunt on your atv to find a GW at your truck waiting to write you a ticket.
Is this too hard for you to understand?

Warning to hunters!!!!
O.K. guys I feel I'm being pushed into a corner here, so I about to come out swinging.
Feelings be damned...here is what I got to say:
If you needan ATV to duck hunt you are lazy.
If you are trying to justify breaking laws to duck hunt, it don't wash with me.
If you feel like the system has wronged you, so what?
What exactly are these letters gonna say?
The state of Mississippi can't inforce it's laws cause you don't think it is fair?
Welcome to life, it ain't nothin' fair 'round here.
By the way is Sprint12 and OLSO the same person? Just wondering.
Last question...Just because one group of people got away with breaking the law, does that make it ok for you to as well?
ccd

O.K., that's good...you 'fixed' the word crape (for crap), now what 'bout coures.....'still can't figure that one out. It's down there in your signature....."Damn water, of coures" ......'C' it? What's dat mean, exactly?
Hey, at least you spelled my name correctly.....Thanks! I appreciate that! E-mail me and tell me why you're still 'gunnin' for me after 4 months. I'd like to set things straight between us.....this ain't good.....bein' at odds.

Anatidae, first of all I want to say “IM SORRY†for you recent loss. “Goldenâ€
Second I believe you know what we mean about the un-expectant hunters. I believe you get the idea. Ok I will admit is was probably not the best word or description to use, but it got my point across. Now you are trying to get some else involved in semantics. What are yawl English professors? PRETTY WEAK BUDDY! You are trying your damndest to get into a confrontation. You have too much time on your hands. It appears you have a lot of time if you hunt 45 and 47 days a year. That’s around 90% of the season. What are you an Internet talk group grammatical consultant critique analysis?????

Hey, now I like that. No, I make a lot of mistakes, myself......why do you think I edit 95% of my posts.....errors.
'Lotta times, folks get to splittin' 'hairs' on here......I'm the World's best at that, for all the good it does. CapnT is just my consultant in the semantics ward. Actually, it's more challenging for me to try to be nonconfrontational. I think some folks just basically mis-interpret what I say 'cause (for whatever reason) they can't stand me, period!
Yeah, I know what you meant. Like you said, I got a lot of time on my hands right now, and I was just tryin' to reduce the tension with a little humor (craziness). Sorry if I offened you.....I find it's better if you can laugh at yourself, sometimes.....keeps things from gettin' to <<<(see, there's an error right there) serious. (shoulda been t-o-o)
'Sorry I interjected the dog thing.....I removed it 'cause it wasn't fair to bring my emotional state into what we were discussing......the regulars on this board already know how unstable I am and are extremely tolerant. However, I DO appreciate your compassion......'tells me you're not sucha bad guy after all.
What were we tryin' to discuss. Oh yeah, the ticket. I think ya'll got a case......and I wish you 'Good Luck' dealing with the problem. Thanks for your thoughtful response. Happy hunting!
Uuh.....that would be grammarical analyst. ......but I knew what you meant.

Warning to hunters!!!!
Cannycreek
First of all its about a 2 mile walk from the trucks to the area where we park our atv. Then we walk in and wade hunt. Now I know you are big and strong , but come on! Some of us like to carry our 62 year old fathers.
Olso and sprint12 are 2 separate, why?

Warning to hunters!!!!
O.k. it is a long walk...
I have some very long walks to make here in Scott Co. as well.
But that is all part of it, I make the walks that no one else will, and usually I benefit from it.
I guess what my bitch with your post is "We" in my area of the state have been walking for a few years now...we couldn't change the rules then, and now I wouldn't if I could.
Get up early take that 2 mile walk, you will enjoy the hunt even more if you do for 2 reasons:
1) No one but a very serious Ducker would make that trip. If you make it you will feel that way too.
2) You will have pick of the slough.
Opening morning, me & my partner took a long walk. We had the slough to ourselves.
Some other guys we konw went to a pretty easy hunting spot, there were 5 other groups on top of them.
Keep the ATV's out of the woods, I'd rather walk.
Good luck with your letter writing
