$10,000+ an acre? That's a bit steep

It will probably sell for that. I've seen properties in AL go for more. I own a similar place here and for years we averaged over 1000 a year and we only have about 50 acres of corn flooded. This place holds significantly more ducks that we ever held so it's not that far fetched. It still blows my mind how we hunt over here. Six or seven blinds full of people on less than 100 acres. Not quality hunting to me but its all you have in some places. We had it great until other folks bought the land across the creek from us and did the same thing that we had been doing. A place like that with no competition, sitting next to a refuge, can easliy kill birds every day and they do.

$10K per acre is high...although farmland in the mid-west is much more expensive on average than even expensive land in MS, LA and AR. Farmland up there is routinely $5K or more.

As to 1750 ducks...that equates to about 30 ducks per day (5 limits) everyday of the season (assuming a 60 day season). That's pretty strong if true.

That ol' boy has gotten himself in some trouble. I am sure he will avoid jail time, but his hunting privileges are gone for a long while I would assume. Obviously, if he is convicted of a felony, he will lose his gun rights. Unless he is gonna hunt ducks and geese with a bow, that is tough stuff. Side note: Some convicted felons will get orders from the court that restore their gun rights.

It is extremely hard for a person convicted of a federal felony to have firearm rights restored. Not terribly hard in State court, but the Feds have a completely different playbook. If what he is charged with is true, it wouldn't bother me if he never got to hold a gun again.

Just a sidebar question....if a felon gets their hunting priviledges revoked, and they own their own land(deed in their name), what's to keep them from muzzle/bow hunting their own land??? Other states may be different, but in MS, if the land deed is in your name, I don't think you need a license to hunt it.
Also, what if the felon is a senior, and is exempt from needing a license??? I mean, if a felon is hunting his own land, even with rifle/shotgun, how can that be enforced???

Just wondering.

Indictment Paragraph 24
... Fall of 2005, FOILES ... drove to a city park in Loveland, Colorado, after learning that numerous Canada geese with leg bands and neck collars were at the park. FOILES used bread to entice banded geese near his vehicle, shot the geese with a pellet gun, retrieved the geese, and removed their leg bands and neck collars. FOILES called this method of collecting goose bands "parking," and subsequently used the collected leg bands to decorate his duck and goose call lanyard, which he wore prominently on his commercial hunting videos to advertise his skill and experience as a migratory waterfowl hunter...

With 5 pits, that comes out to an average 350 ducks per blind per year. If you fill the blinds every time you hunt, that's 45 hunters = 7.77 ducks per hunter per year (doable)

I'd almost bet that you can get this for a deal seeing as how this guy has quite a legal bill to pay.

Owner with a large bill to pay = motivated seller :P

That is sad if true. I have never understood putting bands on your lanyard, it must give you street/duck cred. Killing banded birds is just much luck as anything else.

Doesn't matter if he owns the land or not. A felon can't possess or be near a firearm.
