Why would you want to make your duck gun a 'Topwater Special'?
Nobody owes you anything.

I think this is a perfect example of reverse-topwatering. It's OK to take care of your chit and keep it looking good! Next thing you know, thanks to this topic, some face painting, hoodie-wearers are going to start "vintaging" their guns on purpose so it looks like they've "been used" 'fowling . . . . Little brillo pad here, little mud there. See where I'm headed?

Well topwater or not I bought an 3.5 auto gold when they first came out after a few seaons it was .....lets say used looking, I took it and sprayed it with the ultra flat crylon primer and then painted her up to the camo that I liked and fitted where I hunt and that was 5 or 6 years ago.

Topwaters worth their salt just use camo duct tape...
The regular duct tape works best and is flexible. The "Allen" stuff and the fabric stuff stay tacky and won't stay on around the edges. They got nasty white stickum that is a pain. Ain't gonna get a Belgium Mag A5 dipped!!!! Been doin it for years. The barrel will get lil sticky with bunches of rapid fire though. You can figure out what works on things and or you can try to be accepted and fit the "What's in" around here. If that's what you are about. Topwater is a relative term.
Later DL

Ducted taped humpback...Oh BTW it protects the finish and bluing from scrathing and wear. I'd never use it in salt water though. Got a Condor O/U for that which also doubles as a paddle.

Get it dipped instead...will look better and last longer. (and you won't be labelled a topwater)
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Got a Super X 2 dipped recently at Richy's Gun Shop in Algoma for $200. He doesnt' use "name brand" camo patterns but the patterns look just as good and the application process and material quality are the same. It basically looks like a new gun. If that makes me a topwater then I'm a topwater.

You musta mis-read what I wrote...since using camo clad and duct tape etc will get you labelled a topwater getting it dipped should NOT get you labelled a topwater.

Yep, misread it. I go with whatever works.
