I am seriously looking at purchasing a new scope for my rem 700 30.06
I have been looking at a leupold vx3 3.5x10x50 or a ziess conquest 3x9x50. I was just wondering
what your guys of both scopes were good and bad. I am also looking for a decently cheap scope to put on my wides gun she only uses it about 2-3 times a year

Re: Scope question
I have the VX-III 3.5x10-50 with the BDC recticle but I'm not smart enough to use that. Never had any problems with it and would recommend it to anybody. As far as the cheaper scope, My son has a VX-I on his 7-08 and it is has never given us any trouble and does fairly well in low light. I think for the money its a great scope. I have heard good things about the Zeiss but never had one so my vote is Leupold.

Re: Scope question
I'd go with a Leupold over the Zeiss. I have multiple Leupolds and have looked through 2 Zeiss conquest on friend's guns and never thought they were as good as a varix 3.
as far as a cheap scope I would check out Redfields. They are made buy Leupold. Also would look a Leupold rifleman.

Zeiss....as far as a cheaper scope, does Swift still make scopes?
Re: Scope question
Me personally I like the NIKON monarch . Best scope for the money imo.

Re: Scope question
Bought my first Leopold last month it is a 3.5 x 10 x 40 and with the BDC and I really like it. I have a couple of Nikons also and they are good too. I just like the BDC reticule on the Leopold over the Nikon's but if your not going with the BDC then I think you can't go wrong either way...
As far as a cheap scope. I have a Bushnell 3x9x40 with the rings that I will sell for 50.00 also have a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 Silver that I will sell for 100.00 if your interested.

Re: Scope question
Leupold quality has gone way down since the buyout. Still very good scopes but seeing quite a few more problems now than ever before. I've had 4 bad out of the box this year! All the same model too! VX-3 3.5x10x50. This was their number one selling scope under the old Vari-x banner. They recently pulled some of their new VX-7L scopes off the shelves too. The Nikon Prostaff is now discontinued. Ought to be able to find some deals on them in the next few months. They haven't announced what is going to replace it just that it was being phased out. Yes the Swift Optics is in buisness and going stronger than ever. Since the buyout with them their product have improved dramatically! This may be the best deal for the money bar none. The Zeiss Conquest is still a great scope. They do however seem not to be as clear as some in good light but start to loose that light at the end of the day is where they shine! Looks like the Redfield thing is fixing to flop! AGAIN! I would say for the money right now you can't beat the Nikon Prostaff or the Swift Premier Series. There are better scopes out there but you are gonna pay for em!
Re: Scope question
Well, I have both brands and to me the optics of the Zeiss are at least as good or better than the Leupold. That alone doesn't make it a better scope mind you. The Zeiss is longer and heavier than the Leup. and sometimes they look out of place on certain guns. The eye relief is pretty good on both brands with the Leupold possibly having the edge in that dept. If it were me I'd go with a Zeiss 3-9X40 or the VX3 3.5-10X40.
I don't know why people insist on 50mm objectives on their scopes. The gain in light gathering is minuscule at best. So little in fact that I dare to say most folks couldn't discern the difference with the naked eye. Save your money and get the 40mm obj. so you can mount the scope lower. This allows the shooter to stay down on the comb of the stock so the head is stationary and not hovering above the comb.

I have a nikon prostaff on my tc muzzle loader and would dang near give it away if i didnt have to resight in the gun.
I was sold on leupold when my old vx3 messed up from my damage and they gave me a new one instead of fixing it. vx3 is wayyyy better than the vx2 I have both and the diff is night and day but the vx2 is still a great scope just not as clear and doesnt work as well in low light conditions. I have zero experience with ziess, but doubt their customer service will match leupold
