Decoy Prep

Postby RiverDuck » Tue Nov 23, 2010 1:42 pm

I saw on the General Discusion section where a guy posted he applied a layer of clearcoat or something on his decoys to hel with paint chipping. Do any of you guys know a good product or technique to use on your dekes before they hit the water?

Krylon Crystal Clear Flat #53530. Just a very fine mist over. Allow time to dry, then repeat a time or two.

Just be sure to let the poly spray DRY for at least 24 hours between coats (longer if it is cold)...
... so it doesn't BUBBLE.

If you apply multiple coats too quickly, the bubbling will really "muck-up" your deek.

And it works Best, if the deeks have been inside and are Warm before you spray them.

If you wash the deeks (with dish detg).. particularly around the head where your hands have been, it will get off the oils from your hands and really makes the spray paint stick better.
