I find it funny and sad at the same time that "hunting ethics" have evolved from shooting a doe or legal buck to only harvesting a 6 and 3month old mature buck scoring 146 eleventy/8s with 8" g3s 56"g70s blah blah f'n blah. TV hunting has just about ruined it.

i do agree w you about hunting shows. they aren't all about the true sport, but rather selling products.

gotta wonder sometimes if they get "bonused" if they say the name of the product a certain amount of times, over and above the amount of times they are contracted to say the name.....like the older nascar coke commercials where they are all trying to get in the camera shot while taking a drink of coke.

When i read the first post of this thread it made my blood boil. Even though i know the stereotype is true, I dont really care to hear people talk about it cause we are not all like this. I know the group of guys i hunt and fish with arent like this. Just this week we had three guys go to jail for having 100 freshly frozen ducks, and they didnt kill all that on the youth hunts last weekend. In true coonass stupidity they were caught because neighbors saw baskets of ducks in their front yard, I mean how stupid can one be? And then just yesterday for our opener I had a guy call me saying he and a buddy shot 33 big ducks. So yes the stereotype is true but i have hunted with guys from MS who also fall into this same stereotype.

So . . . . . If "the stereotype is true," why does it bother you to hear about it? The sky is blue. Does that piss you off too?

Haha   Point taken. I agree, the original post was a ridiculous sweeping generalization. Trying to blanket southerners from ANY state is impossible.

I grew up in MS, but have lived in LA for a long time. Me and a buddy that I toted on a hunt this weekend were talking about some fishing guides we knew and some of the people we knew that hunt. we actually were using the term "killer" as a compliment. As in, he's a killer. i have the utmost respect for a guy that can kill more stuff than you can shake a stick at, especially if its on public land, and all done in a legal manner. that is the guy that would have "won" back in the days when hunting meant putting food on the table. You would have been at his door begging for food when the winter got tough. I think its funny when someone comes down here and catches a couple trout and brags on it. I know guys down here that leave the dock in the morning, shoot their ducks, shoot their pouldeau/snipe/rails whatever is in season. Then instead of going back to the camp, they knock out their 25 specks and 5 reds a person, then they catch their limit of bass. Then they call me and see if I want to shoot rabbits with my beagle, or they go work on freshwater catfish, or flounders, or take it offshore for snappas/tuna/cobia. All done legally. They don't want to go back to the camp and BS and drink and watch football. They want to kill. Its a bloodshed thing. And yes, absolutely everything they kill gets eaten.

I don't really mess with deer or trophies, and I was a little disgusted when you said a guy was shooting deer at night. But I got absolutely no problem with a guy who is killing limits of everything within the legal limits.

If I could live anywhere it would be #1- the ozarks, #2- south LA.

And the chitty deer hunting wouldn't bother me 'cause deer hunting blows.

The whole "new age" deer hunting culture makes me want to puke. Could it be the horn porn or the dozens of assorted flavors of deer piss? Could it be the satellite linked trail cameras or the buck rage acorn/rice/ testosterone/ protein fused feed mixes? I don't know. But what I do know is give em hell coonasses, give em hell.
