Results of the GC Fall British Lab Retriever Assoc Trial

Postby MP » Wed Nov 10, 2010 6:28 pm

The fall GC British Labrador Retriever Association Trial held on October 30th was a great success. Thanks to nine handlers and dogs that participated, a special thanks to Kenny Allison of Antler and Wings (http://www.antlersandwings.com) who hosted the trial. We also had a great crowd to observe the dogs work. Hope some of you will join us during our next trial.

The winners are below and received a plaque for the lab and the handler was awarded a Hand made duck call.

1st Place - Chase McIver and Soldier

2nd Place - Michael Cantrell and Cooper

Gunners Choice- Mike Smith and Lady Brooke

Also, a few pics during the trial.

Congratulations and especially to Michael and Cooper! I know you guys have worked hard!

Why a JAM (guns award) and not a third placement? Everyone else put out on a 'wipe? Just curious.

Thanks Johnny,it was a fun experience for sure. All dogs were swiped except for Micheal and I, which ended in a run-off because either dog had any major,or minor deductions. I just got the lucky bird is all,Mike and Cooper ran a great trial.

The remainder of the dogs broke while on the line during the field section, which is an eliminating fault. The gunners choice was chosen from the dogs that were eliminated and was the one the gunners would like to hunt with.

Poor Mr. Millner will cringe at the thought of those "bred for calmness" dog's breaking. Just doesn't happen, old chap!

Congratulations guys (and dogs)!

Mark, do you think Amber could handle that kind of trail. Don't you think she would sit very calmly
I would like to train with that group and get in a lot of honoring with her.
Do you have any idea when they train and can anyone join them. I am willing to pay for flyers.

Karen:

The trials are like a chinese fire drill with shot flyers dropping everywhere compared to what you are used to running, but they are sure fun! I think you might have the opportunity for a few dozen "corrections." I will get you added to the email list. The BLGCC trains once or twice a month at The Most Main Man Tom Hamilton's or Ace Berry's places. I try to make it when I can.

Sorry to disagree with you Mark...... If your dog cannot honor, then you should not participate. It is a great way to train your dog for steadiness, my dog is an American lab and I go to improve her steadiness. It is a real hunting situation!

EXCUSE ME: How many dogs BROKE in the field portion???? HELLO??? Enough that with 'wipes, there were not enough dogs to give a third??? Oh, and did you have a full field?

Anyone tell those guys they "should not participate" before the trial??? Must have had some honor issues someplace in that "real hunting situation"! Alan Sandifer and I literally had to run around and help CATCH 2 dogs that broke in the one at Kearny Park so the trial could continue. At least half the line broke in the first at that one........

Does Tom Hamilton know y'all are talking this "should not participate" trash?

I was actually talking about Karen training her HRCH dog with walkups, but don't let that get in the way of preconcieved notions!

Karen,

I think this type training would be excellent for Amber. You'd have LOTS of chances for corrections. Mark & I were at the organizing meeting for the GC British Lab association. I'm certain I can speak for the few other ladies present that we'd be most happy to have another lady handler out there. You and Amber are very welcome to participate.

This is just another great game for us to "play" with our dogs. The emphasis is a little different, but the skills your dog builds only makes them an even better dog.

Alan called me from the Nationals. He said he would be glad to bring EVERY dog he has to the next one, as long as his friend Mr. Tom is involved.
