You still have to exhaust to the outside.
Re: dog box fans
I run my fan off a battery in the back of my truck also.I made a wiring harness with a trailor plug on the end that plugs into my truck connector and then runs to the battery in the back of my truck so it stays charged all the time. Works just like you had a camper hooked up.

Re: dog box fans
I have a box with radiator fans and do NOT recommend them. They eat up batteries (deepcycles).
All you really want is to move enough air to get the heat build-up out, so I would suggest a marine vent fan(s). They eat far less battery. I went to a test awhile back with a buddy and we ran his vent fans all weekend off of a deep cycle. Mine would have been toast the first day and I'd be re-charging.
I do like my fans in the middle of summer since they move alot of air, but I don't think it's worth the hassle of pulling batteries in and out and re-charging them constantly.
BTW, a rheostat will increase your draw (as explained to me by an electrician)
YMMV

E/R = I or Volts divided by Resistance = Amps
increasing resistance, reduces the current (and in your case) the fan speed.
just thought I'd play along

Re: dog box fans
Took your advise and ordered 39.00 radiator fans.Have the battery separator and charge with shore power or generator.I mounted to blow inside. They blow a hurricane in the box.
