Public Hunting

Postby woody » Mon Dec 03, 2001 4:42 pm

This past weekend I went hunting out at Dahomy WMA in Benoit, MS. It was going to be a great morning, we saw woodies and greenheads flying right before shooting time. We shot about six times when we heard a truck pull up the road and park 50 yards from us. They unloaded equip. and boat and started to paddle in. By the time they got in and started setting out decoys it was 7:45. Needless to say we didn't see another duck, but isn't curtious to spread out alittle more than 50 yards from one another to hunt. I know its public land but come on. It was obvious that they were beginers but do a little research and find out whats involved in a sport before just going out there. I left with 2 woodies at 8:00 I was happy but would have liked to kill some mallards. Anyone else have this problem.

You will love this...
Went to my LEASE Sat. am. 4 young kids sitting in my blind. Told me there were no No Trespassing signs up and I wasn't there so they could hunt it.
I never realized a Polaris 4 wheeler would destroy two robos as bad as it did.

You sound like you let them hunt your place and ran their robos over as you were leaving your blind. I am just curious (I wasn't one of them kids) but I am just wondering what was the final outcome. Did they leave? Did you go get a game warden? Was one of them kids the landowners sons? What made them think they could hunt it? SH*T that pisses me off just thinking about it.

Me My brother and a friend got to our spot Sat. at about 3:30Am set out dekes put up jerk string cooked some breakfast and at about 6 o AM about 3 guys showed up and set up about 60 yards away. We shined them and yelled but they set up any way. All mornin ducks were fling and they would not shut up they were yellin not talkin. We called afew pretty big groups in and right before they got in range they would TRY to start callin and then take 60yd, shots. Sun. mornin they hunted there again after we yelled and said we had a blind they just said ok. One of their shots hit our blind. So a little while later we shot a gadwall but he was lined up perfect with them when we shot. To make a long story short they ruined our opening weekend.
PS they were trying to call with their mouth all day Sat. but it did sound better than their duckcalls.

It's a long story a guy that owned the land about 10 years ago thinks he still does, seems he liked Meth better than farming.
Anyway these kids know him(they are on their way to turning out the same) and last year I let them hunt it, mistake. I've run them off, the land owner has run them off, ever since but Sat. I wasn't in the mood to run anyone off. I simply drove the 4 wheeler out to the blind waved and ran their robos over.(This was in AR by the way)
I realize this wasn't the most mature thing to do but GDamn it felt good.

DY, you got more **** out there they can tear up of yours, then you did of theirs. Without a doubt, they will retaliate against your stuff when you aint around.

Kick their ass and call the law, and have them arrested. Only way to handle it. Nothing is worst than having some old man kick your ass, and then having you arrested to a punk kid. Cept finding their own place to duck hunt. Do both. travis
