Hackberry Flats WMA in Oklahoma
Anybody ever been there hunting?
Re: Hackberry Flats WMA in Oklahoma
No, but I am ready to head out there and check it out.
Would love to hunt Oklahoma mallards.

yep...have hunted it..dry as a bone last year and reports from this weekend indicate the same. The refuge will always have water. Free lancing in OK is difficult and hard work. My advice to anyone wanting to hunt OK is to book a trip through a reputable outfitter like the Duck Club of OK. Tim West is a good guy and can get access to private lands. 10 years ago, public ground was great. Now you will have folks in your hip pocket just like anywhere and Hackberry's impoundments tend to promote crowding by the way they are set up. I view Hackberry as a rest area for geese primarily. There is a NOAA weather station in Frederick on the north boundary of the refuge. Look at the radar on a clear night and see the ground clutter when birds are on the move. It winters a huge population of Ross and Richards geese. You will need a big spread to draw the birds on wheat, corn, milo and peanuts. Not trying to discourage anyone but I have spent 100 days in the last 5 years within a 25 mile radius of that place. If you want to kill mallards in OK, it is going to take time and unfortuantely money if you don't have time.
run me out in the cold rain and snow
