PITA and you'll need at least 3 ft of water to make it work right.

We built 2 or three over the years.levi127 wrote:since you have 2 homemade can you give me some pointers? Im trying to build one now. Like that dang duck thang or whatever thats like $1500.00
Find an old crappy trolling motor. cut off the shaft not cutting the wires inside.
undo the wires in the top of the unit, and pull them down / out of the cut shaft. Cut the ends off an extension cord, connect to the motor wires on one end and some sort of switch on the other. Use lots of electrical tape.
On the bracket, we have done everything from buying a bracket to making one by affixing 3in metal L brackets to the motor body.
If you go the L Bracket route, we used 3/4 in conduit, slipped over the bracket and secured with a hitch pin.
Takes like 5 minutes to set this home made crud up and is a huge pain in the butt.
End of the day, a jerk cord is 10X easier and more effective.

Mallard machine w/remote! When it works best thing out there. Sometimes if you get to far away it don't work good.
