Rage broadheads
Re: Rage broadheads
I have just started shooting a 440 ACC pro hunter and it is shooting 292fps. I think it is 28.5" long, but that is going by memory. 100 gr head. They shoot good holes in paper so my pro told me they were spined right. Does he know what he speaks about?

Blood Dog....you got a point with the durability of the carbons. If my Muzzy's fail me in Quebec at the end of this month what you gonna charge to come blood trail for me?
Relentless....You done gone and got wayyyyy over my head. I am gonna read that about 8 more times and get back with you for an explanation. You not supposed to have to think too much in hunting.
Im sure we could work out something for just sayin I was right

Re: Rage broadheads
I'll probably just have to run him down myself then. You know us guys couldn't admit to being wrong

I am Assuming you are shooting 55 - 65 lbs. So a 440 spine at 28.5 inches is fine....you are not over spined by anymeans. If you got up to 70+ I'd say you may want a stiffer spined arrow...
All I was trying to say is that: heavy does not = straight....and heavy does not always = higher kinetic energy...I'm not trying to say anyone can't shoot, tune a bow, or that ultra light arrows are the way to go... I'm saying the correct arrow is the way to go...
Re: Rage broadheads
I am shooting a 70lb bow bottomed out, so I am assuming that it is about 70lbs, but I have not checked it.

Re: Rage broadheads
I shoot a 250 cx which is a 400 spined arrow and shoot 70#. They say that I'm underspined...but it tunes nicely...I find that bowtechs like a slightly weaker spined arrow...so I roll with it. Now when I go to buy new arrows....I'll buy 350's.
Your in a similar boat as me I imagine...probably wouldn't hurt or even notice either way...but you may try a stiffer spined arrow and see if the bow shoots nicer....it very well could. Than again, you may not notice...
What kind of bow?

Re: Rage broadheads
The bow is a Genetix by New Breed. It is shooting really good through paper and by sight right now, so if everything stays the same I will probably stick with the 440's. I have a good buddy that does all of my bow work. I really know very little about working on bows. I just like to shoot 'em and have never taken the time to learn much about the mechanix of them. Sounds like you are right on. He told me that they were a little light, but he had bought them for comp shooting and didn't use them so I could use them, so I obliged.

Those Genetix are nice shooting bows...
Holler if you want a custom string...here's a few I've built this week. Everything's 452x built and served under 300 lbs. they wont stretch or peep rotate a lick.

Relentless,
I could use your help making sure I got the right arrow for my bow. What all specs u need?

Re: Rage broadheads
I'm still shooting my 2413's and love them. I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to switch to carbons. I still shoot my fixed blade Thunderhead 85's, and fletch my arrows right helical with plastic vanes, I would shoot feathers, but once they pass thru an animal they're ruined and you need to re-fletch. This is set up strictly for accuracy while hunting. I don't shoot at animals past 30 yards on the norm. Somebody hit on a point about them still making 2413's only called something different, I'd like to know a little more about that so next time I go to order I'll know what to order. I generally get my stuff raw from Lancaster and fletch them myself...that way I know they're done the way I want them done, and done right. Carbons/Aluminums, the debate will go on forever, my take on it is if it's working for you, and shoots accurately then go with it. Aluminums just work for me, so I stick with it.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

1. At least you know what your setup will do and it's limitations rather than a bow that shoots around corners...and broadhead that does't hit anywhere near the 2 field points you shot the night before bow season opened in the headlights of your truck. Than you go out there shoot a deer and fail to kill/recover it, than you get on-line and bash different pieces of eqipment (not directed at anyone), not once thinking that maybe it's because you suck at shooting and you don't have enough respect for yourself or the animals you are hunting to properly tune your equipment.
It's amazing the guys that come in and bash modern equipment or practices, when in reality it's because it requires a lot more preparation, ect. than just strappin a rest on and a kisser button and buying some aluminum arrows at 32 inches shooting.

Re: Rage broadheads
I hae shot Muzzy, Thunderhead, Rage, and G5. Never really had a problem with any of them. With the Thunderheads I had problems with the arrow not shooting all the way through. But that was probably more shot placement than anything. I shot Rage for two years and they worked great, but a buddy turned me on to G5. They can be resharpened plus fly true. It's all in what u feel comfortable shooting and what works for u.
