On man I just got the lecture.....

Postby woody » Tue Aug 24, 2010 12:07 pm

So why is it that every year about this time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that gets it, I have to get a lecture from the girl I'm dating about hunting season and why I have to be gone on most weekends? My argument is that women have the rest of the year to drag me to events, weddings, "get togethers" with friends, etc., all I'm asking for is 3-4 months out of the year, which breaks down to about 12-16 weekends. She can have the rest. The girls I date know I hunt, but yet they still seem to want to nag me about going all the time.
Does it get any better? Is there an end to these arguments in my near future? Where can I find a girl that understands getting 66% of the year and me only asking for 33% is a better deal for her?

Gets much worse... I bow hunt almost every evening durin bow season and as soon as duck season I'm in the delta till duck season ends them I'm deer huntin till feb. 14th then I take off all turkey season. I don't know how I've held on to the one I've got now. If u don't wanna hear the fussin trust me its hard I mean hard to find one that won't fuss about huntin.

My girlfriends dad is a huge hunter. She was use to him being gone those weekends during winter. So when I came along, it was just second nature. I'll tell you what, its a huge relief to know when I tell her I'm headed to the delta for a week or so at a time she doesn't fight it but in return says "six a day everyday babe".

I have it made in that department of relationships. 6.5 years and she hasn't changed a bit. Its always "six a day everyday".

Gotta love the good ones.

They usually have zero problems with you hunting all the time..........UNTIL that ring goes on the finger. That's when you start asking for yard passes and weekend passes.

Just tell'em how it is from the get go and stick to your guns. Mine was picked up for dates AFTER I was finished hunting. She knew that's how it was and she knew that I wasn't changing. I never even let her think for a minute I ever would change. I was hunting before I met her and I'm hunting now. Just keep one thing in mind though, it works both ways. If you're not going to change, don't go trying to change her. We've been together 23 years now so it does work.

Married last year. I'll keep you updated if anything happens and she's available :D

GH22, that's what I'm hearing. Lucky for me, I don't see a ring for a few more years! But I got a feeling she won't change.

Two things are working against you: selective memory and a need for control. She will never buy the argument that you spend a higher percentage of the time with her than you do with the ducks. It's not easy to do, but the best option is find one that likes to hunt. You have to buy twice the equipment (and exponentially more when the kids come along) but it's worth it not to be nagged. If she doesn't like for you to be gone now, it will be much worse as time goes along.

It's the same deal every year, most of the problem is that she's not getting all of your attention! So, I just try to show her a little extra attention during the week to make up for it...you gotta keep 'em thinkin that you love them more than huntin' I think one thing that's startin to work in my favor is that I'm takin my son with me most of the time now, so it gives her a little time to herself that she doesn't always have. But you're still probly gonna get the lecture, so just  grin and bear it, I guess

Yep, personal observations of all my surrounding friends, their relationship mistakes, proposals, rings, I do's and wedding cake.

I personally love being able to hunt when I want, where I want, and how I want without questions asked.
