which load?

Postby KWAKHED » Mon Aug 09, 2010 12:37 pm

I just bought a Savage 308 and was just wondering what loads yall are shooting and having good results with. I will pretty much be shooting under 200yds most of the time and mainly deer hunting.

I would go with a 150 grain.. Possibly the Barnes TSX.. 150 grains is way more bullet than you need for a whitetail and it will be a little faster and flatter also..

Ive always shot the remington core lock 150 grain. Like cwink I agree 150 is more than enough.

The Remington Core Lokt 150 is a great round for deer. I've got my kids shooting the 125 grain managed recoil load and it works well too.

Find someone who has Sierra GameKing loaded up for you. Much better than a bonded or all copper bullet.

Good ole cor-loks. My dad won't shoot anything but a 150 grain out of his 30-06. I've never been able to get one to pattern out of my gun so I shoot PMC 150 gr. We both shoot pump Remingtons, his is a 30-06 and I shoot a 270.

Don't go get some off the wall fishtail boat king scirrocco this or that. What are you going to do when your ammo/gun get separated on a hunt away from home and you can't find them fancy schmancy high dollar goofy named bullets? Get you something that they have at every wal-mart in the country as well as any other sporting goods store. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

By "loads", do you mean hand loads or do you mean factory ammunition?

If you mean factory ammo, I would go with the Federal Premium/150 Nosler Partition ammo for your situation.
