Postby Deltaduk » Fri Aug 06, 2010 10:43 am

there used to be a post with pics a few years ago about a snake kill around sardis . did a search ,but could not find it,was wanting to show it to some boys at work. the post showed some ungodly amount of cotton mouths killed in 1 area. anybody got any info on how to find it?
things are getting boring around the office today.

I don't have the pics, but if we're talking about the same incident it was some boys from the New Albany/Pontotoc area. They killed up in the hills on the east side of Upper Sardis WMA.

And yes they received awards from a judge for their work.

I think it is illeagal to kill any snake unless it attacks you. I may be wrong though.

It is one of the vague open ended laws by the dept. Basically you cant kill anything that doesn't have a specific season. Except European starlings, and a few others.

I believe starlings and pigeons and that's it. Not for certain though.

I'm not saying what they did was right, but I doubt they put a dent in the population. In that area there aren't snakes in the woods, there are trees in the snakes.

Here's a link to the law I believe covers killing of non-game species in need of management.
