What to do..What to do?

Postby JakeS » Tue Aug 03, 2010 11:27 am

I'm upgrading all my stuff before season and am trying to figure out whether to go with a 1d MkIIn or go with a 50d. I'm already getting a Canon 70-200 f4 L, so the glass is covered.

I'd like to know what y'all would choose?

Thanks, Jake

Are you looking used just for cost savings?

The Mk II N is discontinued, but the 50D isn't. What about the 7D?

7d...I'll pass. Yea its a good camera and all, but the 50d can put out the same quality and is half the price.

Yes the 1d is discontinued, but it's still a BAAADDD camera that puts out some sick images with the right glass. It's just the 8.2 megapixels makes me think twice and there resale isn't worth a flip.

so is the focus system of the 7D not all what it's cracked up to be? If it is, then to me the 7D would be worthy more for BIF anyway.

I hear the focus on the 7D is great.
But it's the noise at high ISO that is the issue.

I've heard the same thing about the noise at a high ISO.

and yes the focus system is suppose to be nice for BIF.

get a 1d mk III and you are good to go on everything. great focus, no noise until over 2000 ISO. That's what I'd do.

Hands Down , the Mark II.....and I have the 50D, which is a great camera, but if you were to get any, I'd go with the Mark II or a 7D, especially for anything in flight. The 50D can do it, but it takes a lot of practice and skill......and quite a bit of luck......Just my .02 cents worth thou......

7D focus is pretty dang close to the 1dmkIIn, in my experience, but I only used it for a short while...I certainly won't knock it, but I don't care for 1.6 crop cameras....

I have not felt limited by megapixels...most folks only post to the web or view on computers anyway, but you can still get nice large prints from an 8mp camera like the 1dmkIIn... i will stick to my mkIIn for a while longer, until I can justify a 5dmkII to use alongside it, or a 1dmkIV to replace it....

as for resale, they will not drop much more...most of the resale hit occurs early in a life cycle...at the prices they list for today they are gonna drop more slowly than a new camera....

Thanks gordongekko,

I'm snatching one up and putting a 70-200 f4 L on it, and possibly a 300 f4 L also.

Appreciate everyones feedback.

Thanks, Jake
