Nice Brown trout
I caught this fish yesterday on the South Platte outside of Hartsel, CO. I had my phone in one hand and the fish in another. The fish has to be well over 20 inches IMO. Anyone an expert at guestimating the size of fish? He stripped some line but lost the battle..released to fight another day.

Looks 18"-20". Tough to say since it isn't flat. When I catch a good sized trout and don't have a tape, I lay it next to my rod as a reference and take a picture and measure my rod later. Nice fish none the less.

What'd he eat?
he was fooled by a flashback pheasant tail. still trying to figure out the mid day patterns on this river but about daylight 30 there is a huge trico hatch that is unbelievable. This is a gold medal stream .. all catch and release..and any son of a gun with a fly rod can fish it for FREE

Beautiful Will. I am jealous! killin me. I am going to Colorado in about 10 days. I'm floating the Roaring Fork one day(first full day drift ever for my 13 yr old) , and freelancing all of my honey holes in the area on my own the next 5 days! I'm getting a guide because I have no access to a drift boat out there. I didn't do my Montana trip this year, first time in 8 years so I'm very upset with the trout at this point. The Crystal River is supposed to be fishing well, and I can't sleep I'm getting so excited. I'm glad you are learning the South Platte, it's supposed to be amamzing. Probably not too far of a drive for you. I hope you and your family are doing well, good to hear from you. Give me a shout if you are heading the Delta any this year. Bates

Will do - I have fished this river for about ten years..I'll just be beating the water a lot more now. I am heading to 11 mile this weekend to fish the canyon there and then over to Cheeseman canyon near Deckers. Ping me when you are heading this way. The Roaring Fork is just over a few hills.

Not sure if clusters are for retail anywhere though... maybe a Griffith's Gnat for clusters of midges would work.
