Seymore, I think you handled this situation very well, and walked away the bigger man. I am dearly sorry your daughter has gone through it. I have a first cousin who has been married into an abusive relationship for 14 years. Her excuse for stayin is she loves him, that is one hell of a way to return the love. That said I am not sure what I would have done. I would like to say I would have handled it as well, as you. I do have a temper like a one-legged wolf with distemper, so I would prob be the one in jail this morning.

What a piece of garbage. Way to keep your cool seymore, skull dragging his face would have made you feel better, but when I think about it, may not have extinguished what your daughter felt towards him i.e. He didn't mean it yadda yadda, then you turn into the bad guy for beating the douche to an inch of his life and your daughter still believes he didn't mean it. You did the right thing, now hammer his ass legally, and if that doesn't work, hammer him physically, and don't hesitate to call some duck south boys. He deserves a lot of chit after hitting a lady.

You did the right thing. No need of getting charges filed on yourself after the fact.

The biggest problem you'll have to deal with is making her realize that it is over. After what he did, he won't be the one initiating the contact.....he'll wait on her to do so. And like you said, the remorse has already started. Women today are different about those things than they used to be. Got a friend in louisiana going through the same stuff with her bf......but she loves him, and the "It will be ok" phrase is used all the time when I try to talk to her about it.

I had a similar incident several years ago, daughter now in Grad. school. I did not keep my cool and beat the crap out of the little s.o.b. threw him in the back of my car and took him to his daddy's house. Drug him to the front porch and knocked on the door, his father came to the door and I dropped him at his fathers feet.

Told him what he had done to my daughter and showed him the result. Let him know that if I ever saw or even heard of him contacting my daughter again he would need a body bag. I also went over the fact that if the police were brought into this then there would come a day when I would be out on bail, bond whatever and there would be no place on earth for his son, him or anyone else to hide. I asked if he understood what I said and what I meant gave him a chance to raise any objections, told him it was ended as far as I was concerned and left. Never heard another word from the piece of sh&*t or his family.

I probable should not have handled it this way but I look at things differently than most folks. It has become acceptable for this type of behavior to be handled in a more civilized manner in todays world.

Not knocking the way you handled it, if fact you have my respect for showing the restraint I could not.

Just the way I was raised, you cause my children stress or pain expect the same back 10 fold.

On a serious note I was carrying. My wife was worried about that when I left but I told her the often used phrase of judged by 12 and carried by 6. No way I'd have brandished it or threatened with it but I didn't know what sort of fight I was walking into.

Wow, I have three daughters and the oldest is soon to be 18. We haven't had to deal with this issue yet, however that doesn't mean it won't present itself with her or one of the others in the future. I can't even begin to determine how I would truly handle myself if this were to happen. You certainly have my respect for being able to handle this the way you did. I pray that you and your wife can help your daughter see him and this situation for what it really is. I would most certainly have a talk with his parents and being this out into the open. If that didn't go better than expected, I would continue to do all in my power to take legal action. Prayers sent for your family!
