Hip Certification question

Postby DeltaCotton12 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:16 am

I have educated myself (mostly through the threads here) on the importance of hips and eyes being checked and certified before having litters. I agree 100% for the safety and health of the pups.

My question. is the vets word (after the checkup) that the hips and eyes are clear or is the X-rays being sent off and "certified" what most people look for?

If she checks out ok and I get her through Seasoned test, I would like to look at breeding her. Thats all assuming she passes the hips and eye test.

Ofa certificate is what you need. Most pup buyers these days are well educated and are looking for all the health clearances and cerfs.

Most people want the certification. The cost to have OFA and CERF listed is minimal compared to the cost of the exam and radiographs. Informed puppy buyers will look at the vertical pedigree on the OFA website and will want to see results for elbows also. If elbows, EIC or CNM are missing then the worst is often assumed.

Hope this helps

There is only one doctor in the state that does Eye Cerf and he has a practice in Starkville pm me if you want the number. The only doctor that I will let do Hips is Dr. Lee Payne in Oxford he is the best around.

your local vet takes the xrays and they are sent off to the orthapedic foundation and they certify them. You get a certifcate in the mail

Dr. Lee Payne at Animal Clinic of Oxford in Oxford, MS, did all of my 2 dog's tests. He does not use any kind of drugs to put the dogs to sleep while he checks their hips. He is also a HRC guy who has 2 dogs with grand passes.

Their office number is 662-234-8022.

I would get Dr. Payne to do the hips for you. He will take the time to get the best x-ray of your dogs hips. The EIC and CNM can be done at any local vet. The tests are sent off to be tested. You have to order a kit for the CNM test from France. It takes a little while to get the kit. You can do it online. The guy that does the eye cerf comes to starkville once a month at animal medical center. Most people are looking for OFA hip, eyes CERF, EIC results, and CNM results when buying. I just had pups and thats what I have done.
