3:10 To Yuma

alot of folks that know me, know i buy dvd's like i buy the morning coffee.....i mean, i just don't rent. got several hundred of the things at the house.....

in any case, i've been on a western kick here lately.....watched everything from tombstone, legends of the fall, a river runs through it, jeremiah johnson, the good/bad/ugly, the unforgiven, etc etc.............and, i'm watching 3:10 to yuma now.....the remake w/ russell crowe and batman. man, i gotta say, this is a great western. forgot how good it was.

probably gonna watch it again, then maybe watch jeremiah johnson again.

making home made pizza's tonight w/ the family, having some bourbon, and waiting on megan and lila to get back from buying flowers for the yard........

Yeah, it's well above average. I'd throw Legends of the Fall in the garbage disposal, though. Heard they were remaking True Grit -- one of my all time favorites, along with El Dorado and Big Jake.

Nothing is more American than Westerns (except maybe baseball) and I'm a huge fan off both. It is a freaking shame they dont make more of them these days though. I just dont get it....everytime Hollywood does one right, it's sucessful, yet were lucky if they make a good one every 3 or 4 years.

I pretty much like all of John Wayne's stuff. The cowboys is probably my favorite but there are so many good ones it hard to say. Clint sure made some good'ens in his day with THe OJW's and Unforgiven being my favorites. Lonesome Dove, Dances with Woves, and Jeramiah Johnson are in my top ten too.

One more comment....The searcher's directed by John Ford has some of the best "shots" ever in a movie. Each scene is like looking at a Western Painting.

I guess the love story was too prevalent a theme for my taste in "Westerns."

I very much enjoy the westerns as well. I have never seen 3:10 to Yuma, but remember seeing the trailers for the remake and thinking that it looked like a great movie.
Jeremiah Johnson is one of my favorites as well as Tombstone (obviously).

After many years I am still confused why they made Rio Bravo AND El Dorado. Same movie, different supporting actors. Some JW fan needs to explain it to me.

As long as someone brought up Legends of the fall, I'll throw All the Pretty Horses in there, ever seen that one, I liked it, despite some people saying it was a chick flick.

I liked the book All The Pretty Horses better than the movie, but the movie was still pretty good. There are a few good movies depicting that era. The Hilo Country is another great movie about the Texas border in the late 40s.

I suppose my love for westerns goes back to when I was a kid. My grandmother took me to see Pale Rider in the theater in Mobile when I was 10 and I was hooked on westerns from then on. Of course I'm a fan off all the classics most of you have mentioned, but there are some good lesser known westerns out there as well. Have any of y'all seen The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James with Kris Kristopherson and Johnny Cash. Its a pretty good one.

I can't belive no one has mentioned The Outlaw Josey Wales. You can't talk about Clint Eastwood westerns without throwing that one out on equal footing with all the man with no name movies.

Some of the Sam Elliot westerns are pretty good as well.
