What shotgun

Postby claimsadj » Sat Jun 19, 2010 8:07 pm

Looking for a good all purpose gun, but mostly for waterfowl. I have a benelli monifeltro I dove hunt with, but don't want us it for waterfowl because of rusting, etc. What shotgun would you buy if you wanted to spend a moderate amount, somewhere around $500. Doesn't have to be flashy, just dependable.

I own both a Benelli Nova and a Remington 870 and either one is a good reliable gun. If you decide on the 870 I would try to find a pre 2004 model they seem to hold up better. Really it all comes down to how the gun fits you and your own personal preference.

+2 on the 870. Bought mine in 1988, have shot countless shells of all varieties through it, cleaned it once a year whether it needed it or not, dropped it, and done pretty much everything else you can do to one. Had to put it in the shop a couple of years ago to replace a worn part, $50 and it's like new. Great guns.

I have an 870 that is probably 20 yrs old, the ducks are just as dead as those shot by a Benelli, Browning Gold or a Baretta XII.
I ain't hunting, it's a tailgate party with shotguns.

Two options to look at if you want an Autoloader are the Stoeger M200 and for a little more you can get the Franchi I12..

Ok, I may be a bit of an odd duck, but I use a Mossberg 500A. It's simple, dependable, and I use it for everything. In fact, I bought mine after a duck season, and Wally World was selling it as a 'Turkey Special'. Go figure.

870... they are arguably the best shotguns ever made and prob the most sold one too, my dad got an 870 wingmaster when he was 12 he is now 54 and it still shoots sweet and never broken on him either!

870...I've got a 1952 model 870 that I inherited from my dad when he passed in Feb. It has a lot smoother action than the Supernova I bought recently...........
