Ask Duck South...Wedding Stuff??

Postby JMCMILLIN » Sun May 09, 2010 7:26 pm

Guys

We are getting married next June (2011) in Jackson @ St. Peters in downtown.

My question is: Where to do the rehersal and reception: all ideas and thoughts are welcome (except for the "run now" "get away" "why get married" and the "don't do it").

We are looking really hard at the University Club and River Hills for rehersal....but that is about as far as we have got.

Come on lets hear it

I had mine at Highland village in Jackson and it was a lot of fun if I must say so myself. If it's going to be just one of those boring receptions though do it at the Jackson Country Club! :D

I have been know to "get down" at a few wedding receptions....that being said, the one place I've had the most fun at, was the Red Barn at Northpointe. Its off Old Canton Close to Countyline Rd. It's basically a nice red barn looking thing, with a dancefloor upstairs and a place to grub downstairs. Its not redneck, like what you think, but its not fancy. If your going to have alot of people that want to hang out and do their thing and have a band and just drink and chill. This is the place.

Also, think about the driving situation. In a perfect world we wouldnt drink and drive....but its not perfect. Try to keep everything close. Its going to happen and you dont want to have to worry about bailing your buddies out.

We had ours at the Steam Room Grille on I-55 North. It's right next to the formalwear place that my wife rented her dress. (And a d@mn fine dress it was too. I was very pleasently surprised.)

Agreed. We got married downtown, but the rehersal, reception and hotel for wedding party were all around County Line kind of for that reason. Did the rehearsal at Shapley's and reception at the Red Barn. When it comes to renting places, the RB is fairly cheap too.

Just tell everybody to turn their headlights on when you get on the interstate at 11pm....isn't that right deltadukman?

The first thing that I would do is stop planning this far in advance. The gig is over a year away. If you start now, you will have to listen to details and problems, etc., etc., etc... for over a year.

If you want to keep it close to DT then maybe Schimmel's for the RD and the University Club for the reception. I have never had a bad drink at the UC.

Sorry, but waiting will only cause more problems. Sometimes planning a year in advance is not enough time. You do realize that everybody else getting married are looking for the same types of places and booking them up. So they start calling around and realizing places are already booked, even if they start calling now.

You can never plan to early, but you can always plan to late.

True. When I popped the question, my bride suggested that we get married at Maynell (sp) Gardens because that is where I took her on her birthday the day I proposed. (Yeah, it was quite an eventful birthday for her.) Anyway, when we looked at booking the place, we were told that it was already booked every single weekend through November, and into December! Remember, this is in Mississippi, where it rains every weekend in the winter, and all of their weddings are outdoor affairs!

My suggestion? Go ahead and get the big things like when and where booked now. And contrary to what your lovely fiance' says, not everything is a big thing. (For instance, the silk flowers that you will need to get for a June wedding will not even be in the stores until about February.)

My next suggestion? Once you two make a decision about something wedding related, move on to the next item on the list. Do not start second guessing yourselves on trivial matters. (See first suggestion.)

I don't know about the reception but if she has not bought her dresses yet tell her to get to Center Stage Formals in Clinton NOW !
We are closing the doors at the end of the month and everything is 75% off !!!
and if she has her dress tell her you saw it ( bad luck )and to come get another one

University Club, though the red barn is a good place too. Both good choices if ones not nice enough the other will be.
